Loving these Thanksgiving tablescape ideas

Agreed, and frankly when I have people over, I'm lucky if I get a shower. Tablescape? HA!

Sadly yes, so I just stick with calling them centerpieces. Love doing it though.

When I did TG I usually did pumpkins with red/gold leaves from the yard, various nuts scattered about, mini pumpkins, and votive candles on the round tables, added some taller tapers along with same for the long table. Glad I'm not sitting down 45+ people anymore.

Oh come on, I know you are kidding. A lady of your talent not getting a shower

when you have people over. How could that be unless your shower broke! Too funny. The first thing I do when we have guests is the table. It is so much fun. I love a simple but elegant table, however. Those above are too messy for me....simply too much going on.

Even with Thanksgiving....my table is already set and covered. Tomorrow, I make my salad dressing, and prep a few things. Monday I start cooking, make my cranberries, Tuesday and Wednesday I do the rest. Everything is put into the refer, tightly sealed. On Thursday, I prep the turkey, get everything out about three hours ahead of time to heat in crock pots, or cook. It all is ready when the turkey is. Even my gravy is made ahead. When I was working I came home and did one or two things at night.
On Thursday, I want to be relaxed, have a glass of wine with my guests and make them feel comfortable.

I set my table ahead too...I'm like you, prepping ahead of time

when I did TG, since it was so many people, I started after Halloween. Doing a little something every day. I even would prep the coffee pot to auto make on TG so I didn't have to think about it. My goal was to drink/visit with all on the day of. However, my MIL felt like it wasn't TG without kitchen chaos, so always tried to undo my planning some how. smileys/irritated.gif

Ah, practice, practice. I'm still getting my timing down. While I try to do as much as possible

ahead it seems I'm often scrambling to the finish line. And I'd set the table in advance, but people in this area are notorious for last minute cancellations. Last month I had a dinner party and 4 of the 8 people dropped out in the last HOUR. "Oh, you got my message, right?" Grrrr.... Because this happens so frequently, my housemate was like, "Remember not to double your recipes."

The reality is, most of my knowledge is in theory, not in practice. I've taken a ton of classes, had a massive cookbook collection (recently culled), and rubbed elbows with lots of chefs, but actual cooking on a regular basis is new to me. For almost 10 years, evenings? If I wasn't at an event (often 5 nights a week), I was in a cooking class. On the nights I was home, I did little more than fried egg sandwiches.

I've done dinners for 100, but quickly realized I cannot be cook, server, and host. At home I'm trying to be all those things...and the house cleaner. Oof!

But Erin, she is our First Girlfriend! She has "tablescaped" her way to NY's top lady honor....!
