Made the Spiced Upside Down Apple Bundt Cake--Wonderful-Thanks Gay!

I took it to a fall party last night. It was a 5 year celebration of our bootcamp class so there were some people who don't eat sweets there. However the others definitely enjoyed it, two people asked if they could take a piece home with them, two others wanted the recipe and the bootcamp organizer suggested that it would make a good addition to our next bootcamp coffee - held outside at 7AM at the end of each class series.

The farmers market had Black Twig apples which are dry, tart and crisp so I tried them. They were perfect because they held their shape and did not add any extra sweetness to the cake.

Barbara in Va, So happy to hear it was a enjoyed by all. Love your photo of the cake!

Did you make the streusel topping too? Can't really tell from the picture, although it

(oh yes it does - sorry!) looks like just the apples/spices. I made mine very similarly, except I didn't make the streusel top. And then I drizzled caramel (just brown sugar and butter) on top.

And what happened to the hole of the cake?)

Also, why does the baking time vary so much with the different apple cake recipes here at FK

From 40 minutes to 1 1/2 hours!? They all seemed to be made in rectangular pan, except for yours, and yours didn't take too long (I can see why a Bundt cake would take longer, but doesn't seem so, consistantly). Mine took about 45.

Dawn, there is a hole in the center of the cake, I think it is just poor photography so you can't

see it! I tried several different shots but none of them turned out very well, LOL. It is a very moist cake and I love the texture, it is almost creamy. And, you can taste the apple brandy in it too.

Oh, and as far as baking time, mine took an additional 15 minutes over the prescribed 1 hour. I guess it varies with oven temp?

But the directions for baking all the cake recipes are so variable... oh well, maybe different ingre

ingredients make the difference (more liquid, added apples, etc.). I just took a quick glance and picked the one I thought looked easy but good.

Yours is a great picture!
