Maple syrup/sugar question?

I am baking some maple cookies. the recipe called for maple syrup and maple extract. I didn't have any maple extract so used vanilla. The dough sits in the fridge waiting for me to roll out. It gets cut into rounds, painted with an egg wash, pecan half in the center than sprinkled with sugar. My question is, can I paint them with maple syrup instead of egg to give them a more "maple-y" flavor? I looked at getting some maple sugar but just a little spice jar full is $11. A lot for one cookie recipe.

Thanks!

I'm not getting a good feel for that substitution. Egg is protein & fat, maple syrup is

sugar and water. The protein would harden. The maple syrup might just get sticky.

An alternate idea is to "candy the pecan" with reduced maple syrup, then baked to dry it out.

Yes, I think you are exactly right, I was afraid of that. I love the idea of a sugared pecan tho!

Thank you, will give it a try!
