Marg, do you have...

"The Historic Restaurants of Paris: A Guide to Century Old Cafés, Bistros, and Gourmet Food Stores"? It's a cute little Baedaker-sized handbook listing the places in the century-plus club by arrondissement. Fabulous little treasure. And I managed to hit 5 of the places without the book! No pictures unfortunately, but the size is perfect for carrying along.

And of course, the Café de la Paix is listed! They have a rather grand write-up on it. If you don't have the book let me know, I'll scan the Paix piece for you.

Also picked up another book I thought you would be interested in, if you don't already have it:

"Paris Boulangerie-Patisserie: Recipes from Thirteen Outstanding French Bakeries." It makes a delightful companion guide to the former as it contains many places listed in it and has a rich assortment of photographs to see the wonderful old 19th C. interiors that they so tantilizingly describe.

Mais non. But now you have me halfway planning a trip.

I always use the red Michelin & find it absolutely reliable all over. But these sound like real gems.

When I was first in Paris as a teenager, touring with a friend, I told myself that I wanted to have enough money in my life to return to stay at that hotel...le Grand. I was so mesmerized. And the mille-feuilles didn't hurt. I have been hooked on pastries all my life.

Thank you for thinking of me.
