Marianne how are the party plans coming along....

Joanie, thanks for asking. I'm so busy with the plans that I've been off the forum for a while...

it's starting to be fun. I've found several neat things for decorations, (thanks to forum helpers), MC garden flags (including enough to give to each of my guests as gifts),and my camo netting for table covers is hanging in the trees, letting the sun and rain get rid of the musty "Army" smell. I found red tablecloths and napkins at Target, for underneath the netting, and the MC recruiting station has offered me posters for decorating. I also found a darling "Yard Guard", a 2-foot high plywood cut out Marine, to guard the front door, thanks to cheez. I was able to order him in my husband's rank. There will be other decorations, also.

I'm testing recipes, too. I found the official USMC SOS recipe, and will serve it on toast points (perhaps I'll garnish it with parsley, to give it some class). The menu is still a work in progress, but some of the items are Quantico Crab Canapes, Navy Bean Crostini, Commandant's Chicken Skewers, Ship's Bell Shrimp, Colors Pepper Salad (red and yellow peppers, the MC colors), Tripoli Sweet Tea, Flag Pole Punch (white sangria), AngAK's chocolate pound cake will be M-Nu Cake, (this was DH's idea, M-Nu is the stuff the guys use to blacken their uniform brass buttons),and a Birthday Banana-Coconut Cake (Marines all celebrate the birthday of the Corps on Nov. 10th. Their birthday is a big deal). I'm guessing that some of these menu names will change, as I think more about it, or if I get any more input from my wonderful forum friends.

DH is getting into it, too. You should have seen him when he unravelled the camo netting. He was like a kid with a new toy, grinning from ear to ear, declared that it was "the right stuff", and he played with it for a while. He plans to drape the front porch with it, and make a sign for the Officer's Club.

Our Marine guests are going to be so surprised! I can hardly wait to see the look on their faces when they arrive. They are all so gung-ho, but I've never attended an MC funtion themed like this before. I never could have done this without the fabulous ideas from all you forum members. Thank you all so much. Yes, there will be pictures.

Semper Fi.

this sounds so awesome, and what fun. That chocolate cake is indeed very dark and M-nu ish.

I remember my ex used a whole lot of Brasso too.

Oh, and that dark chocolate ice cream packed in round tins would look like black shoe polish.

Lots of that polish used for their black boots.

Sounds like it's coming together nicely. You could get a chalkboard

to write the 'menu' on and post it near the food. You could make a sign that says "Jar - Head" to hang on the bathroom door smileys/smile.gif I'm glad DH is having fun helping you. When is the party again??

Ang, do you really know about M-nu? DH said you probably helped ex with his ...

uniform! And the Kiwi polish ice cream is another killer idea! Yeah, got to include Brasso, too. Thanks a bunch!

I don't remember M-nu, but the Brasso yes. I couldn't help this jar head. not even with ironing.

shucks. LOL.
