You said I have the worst luck. 'Thought you'd be amused that my cat brought in a baby possum the other night. Yes, the critters around here keep us entertained.

We didn't realize that's what happened, until DH woke up with a little face staring at him from under a box. The cat was out in the early morning, and she must've thought it was a poor little lost kitten, and picked it up by the scruff of its neck. We opened a screen and it ambled out by itself. Fun way to start the day. Better than the baby bunny hiding between the refrigerator and the cabinet, a couple of years ago, also a cat "catch" (alive).

Dawn, it sounds like your cat is a responsible hunter, adhering to the...

..."catch and release" guidelines, in order to ensure the hunting experience is available to future generations of cats.

Very encouraging.

Darn, my cover is blown. No, but my next-door neighbor is a

veterinary student! Last night we watched as a (another?) possum walked right through the doggie door. Before we could get him out, he helped himself to some cat food then waddled out.

My cat used to WATCH the possum come in and eat his food!

But when the raccoon found out about the food, we had to move the food inside as he was such a pest.

The funniest thing happened the other day, during Tropical Storm Debbie. The cat wanted to go out, so I quickly went out and closed the screen door so he would be trapped in our screened room. He took one look, and changed his mind. Then my husband noticed that something was moving around in the screen room - it was an armadillo! I have seen him ambling across the road in the early morning, but never so close. Poor little thing was confused by the light, and started scrabbling at the glass door, but I managed to get out and open the outside door, and he eventually went out. I think he must have been flooded out of his burrow or something, as it wasn't quite dark yet.
