I watched the judging of several "special contests", where you bring in your entry and are judged by a panel in front of an audience.
Then the audience gets to sample the entries, talk with the cooks and get recipes.
The "greatest pie in the USA" got 41 entries!!!!!! 4 hours!
Baked beans, ribs and "recetas latinas" were more manageable.
