Marvellous Meatballs with Maple Marinade

Hanging head in shame, I can't remember the source.

Makes about 24 meatballs, and about 1 3/4 cups (425 mL) of marinade

For the marinade:

- 1/4 cup (50 mL) soy sauce

- 1/4 cup (50 mL) orange juice

- 1/4 cup (50 mL) onion, minced

- 1/4 cup (50 mL) vinegar or lemon juice

- 1 garlic clove, crushed

- 1/4 cup (50 mL) maple syrup

- 1/2 teaspoon (2 mL) dry mustard

For the meatballs:

- 1 pound (450 g) medium ground beef

- 1 egg

- 1/4 cup (50 mL) dry Italian seasoned breadcrumbs

1. In a stainless steel, glass or plastic mixing bowl, combine all marinade ingredients and set aside.

2. In another bowl, combine all meatball ingredients and mix well with clean hands. Form meatballs about 1 inch (2.5 cm) in diameter and place in ovenproof casserole dish. Cover with marinade and refrigerate, covered, at least 2 hours.

3. Remove from refrigerator for 1 hour at room temperature, then bake uncovered with marinade in preheated oven at 350°F (180°C) until meatballs are cooked, about 1 hour, turning meatballs occasionally.
