Maryanne Esposito, of "Ciao Italia" fame... just saw her open and close her fridge, touching...

...the fridge handles, in order to take out a bowl of raw, ground pork. She was making sausage. She then stuck her UNWASHED hands into the raw meat and began mixing spices.

THEN, she had the AUDACITY to lecture her viewers about "walking around the kitchen with raw meat on your hands. You HAVE TO WASH THEM!" Oh, really??????

Yeah, right. Lecture me, after you've touched a filthy fridge handle and then mixed raw meat with your hands that other people will eventually eat.

Oy. And she's PAID to cook in front of people.

I can't say I'm getting cranky in my old age. I've been cranky for YEARS.

Can we assume that the set had just been cleaned with the appropriate cleaner and that her hands

were clean? I've seen Ina and others running around on the set and then put their hands into something. Giada is one that rarely even touches the meat. If you study the way she works on set, she is probably the neatest and cleanest chef of the bunch.

Yes, I know how you feel--people worry about germs, but do NOT understand cross-contamination! (nt)

I still don't think she should touch anything and then plunge her mitts into raw meat.

When I'm handling food, I wash my hands completely, and use a paper towel to dry them, because a kitchen towel, no matter how clean, is still not worth the risk.

It I touch anything, including my person (face, glasses, etc.), I re-wash my hands before touching food.

Am I too meticulous? (AR?) Maybe. But I really hate the thought of getting anyone sick.

And some think that it is only the meat that can contaminate something. . .

and seem not to realize that things can contaminate the meat. I mean after all, this is where those e-coli outbreaks come from. The bacteria is not present *in* the meat, but gets into it during slaughtering/butchering/grinding.

yes, plus we wash all our veggies before cutting into, then the knife gets a good hot soapy wash.

Finally go the man of the house to do the same when cutting his grapefruit, or other fruits. No excuse for all this e-coli. I grew up on a small plot of land with animals that we ate and a huge veggie garden. Grandpa had the veggies high up on the hill and the animals down below. Animals were taken care of first thing in the morning, grandpa washed his hands well and taught me to do the same. In the afternoon the veggies were taken care of. Even back then we knew how to do it. we never mixed the two chores. I don't think I ever heard of e-coli until all the people getting sick from it, not sure how long ago that was.

I learned proper hand washing and sterile technique when I worked in hospitals as a ...

...Nurse Aid.

It carries right over into the kitchen.
