Melissa Dallas, thanks for the kolache recipe. They turned out great.

I looked at the recipe and me being...well, me...I just threw everything into the bread machine and select #9, the "You apathetic sloth, I guess we're stuck doing all the work again, aren't we? you lazy cow" Dough option.

Went for a walk on the beach...

...and came back to a risen batch of dough.

I split the dough into four pieces, then took one of those and split that into four 4" balls which I finger-padded into flat-ish circles. Covered the tray with plastic wrap and let it rise again for 45 minutes.

I took another fourth and rolled it out to 8x4" rectangle. Spread that with Dyslexic sauce and sprinkled that with almond meal. Rolled it on the long side, put it into a sprayed gluten pan (narrower than a regular bread pan) and let it rise as well.

The other two "fourths" I wrapped in saran and tossed in the freezer just to remove the temptation of making MORE pastries. I doubt they'll be viable since they had already risen once. Oh well, for the time, effort and ingredients, I don't care if they aren't usable.

Took the Syrian apricot paste/cum leather and ripped off about a fourth. Added a splash of simple syrup, a bit of water and some lemon juice. Stirred on stove top until it (mostly) melted. Topped off the four kolaches and baked for 13 minutes.

Chocolate rolled bread took another 5 minutes.

Both were very tasty with a pot of hot English tea! Thanks again.

(You can see from the photo that the right side of the pan was next to the tall gluten pan. I probably should have rotated it, but...well, read the first sentence again.)

They look lovely. The recipe is from a famous Czech kolache stop

There are several little towns south of here on I35 that are predominately Czech. West, Texas is one of them. There are multiple bakeries and gas stations in those areas that sell kolaches.

This is my first kolache. Are they meant to be this big? Of course, we had no problem eating them...

I just wondered if I got carried away.
