Always wanted to make Alfajores....

a friend of mine from Argentina used to bring them to our lab in Sao Paulo whenever she would fly back from Buenos Aires

they were amazing!

Perfect! I especially love the "groaning charcuterie board". smileys/smile.gif Could you share the recipe

for the Dulce de leche Cake Roll?

Of course. Well everything except the cheese and cured meats.

Garden vegetables, home made breads and desserts, the works. The brown butter pecan ice cream has 2 lbs. brown butter, 1 quart of whipping cream, and a half gallon of whole milk.

Richard, I once (and ONLY once) spent almost $20 buying fresh ingredients for a Chimichurri recipe

It ended up very bitter and ruined my steak. A friend who doesn't cook but loves watching TV shows sent it to me, insisting it looked amazing. And it did.

It just didn't taste very good. Far too bitter for my taste.

Do you think this was just a fluke of this particular recipe? It had a LOT of fresh garlic which I should have realized is a problem for me. Or do all Chimichurri have a bitter taste?

I've shied away from trying it again.

I have made chimichurri several times and love it. I will look up my recipe later

and post it. Don't understand the amount of money spent on ingredients, mostly pantry staples, with parsley, jalapeno and cilantro. The herbs are not expensive and can be grown at home in a pot. The bitter taste may have been from cilantro past its prime is all I can think of.

Has to be the recipe--I could and have eaten it with a spoon, and certainly on bread

as a dipper in an Argentine resto here.
Parsley, oil, herbs, vinegar splash, garlic. Maybe yours called for too much garlic--that can get "biting". ;o)

Garlic! I never thought about that...I bet that was it. I keep a head of roasted garlic

in my fridge and use it for so much. But there are times when only fresh, raw garlic will work. I have never had a bitter taste with it, however. Like she said, maybe too much garlic.

I didn't realize it at the time, but this was for a dinner party quantity, so it was

multiple bunches of fresh Italian parsley, fresh cilantro, fresh organic oregano ($2.50 a package and I bought several). Two packages of shallots, garlic, fresh hot chilies. There's no stopping me when I'm on a tear.

To be honest, the idea still sounds amazing to me. Maybe I can try a mini-version and leave out the garlic.

I make it frequently, w/ the garlic, I remove the green section that it often in the middle when you

slice it. (That is the bitter part, for me)

Great menu! Of course, I went right to the end to read yr dessert offerings & am pleased to read

that two other posters requested yr dessert recipes. I LOVE THIS SITE!
