...INTERN THIS SUMMER!

Woohoo! This a step into the Major Leagues of live entertainment! There is no one better in the world than Cirque.

Last week my wife and I met with three of the top Cirque executives, including the show managers for LOVE! and KA, along with the head of show support. The latter is the gentleman who will be my son's boss for 3 months this summer. He is in charge of providing Show Support for all the Vegas shows, from home office to on-site support. My son will be working behind the scenes with all of the shows in Vegas, and will be working with top brass in the process.

He is SO excited. For someone with a Technical Theater and Business Administration double major, there couldn't be a better fit for an internship. We are so happy for him!!

Wow Michael that is so exciting and what an incredible opportunity!

I'm so happy for him and mom and dad.

Oh. My. Gosh. That is absolutely wonderful.

He must be amazing at what he does to have been awarded this position. He will have a great time, and just think what he will learn - as you say, this is top of the trees!

Thanks for the kind words everyone! Steve Donner DID play a part in this. He knew my son...

...was crazy about Disney. Steve made sure he understood the opportunities in this industry range far and wide, and Disney is only one bright star in this universe. My son took that advice to heart.

He may, some day, work for or with Disney, but Cirque du Soleil will do just fine!

I could go on about how his professors characterize him, and bore you all to death. He's an amazing kid...

Thanks again,

Michael

That's great! Those kind of internships are very hard to get . . .

so it speaks very well of your son! Curious, where does he go to school?

BTW, my sister designed the theatrical lighting for La Reve at the Wynn. (Can't help it . . . I've got to get a plug in too!)

Regards.

He is finishing up his junior year at Chapman University in Orange, CA. They have...

...an excellent Theater Technology Department. He has a double major in Theater Technology and Business Administration. He wants to design and implement themed entertainment and have his own business entity with which to do that.

I hear Le Rêve is amazing! Your sister must be highly accomplished in the lighting biz.

He should think about writing an article for Medium: What I learned working for Cirque du Soleil.

And I encourage you to tell him, every night--no matter how tired you are, take 15 minutes to capture what you learned in a notebook. Opportunities like that are like drinking out of a fire hose. It's an intense time, and your mind will filter out a lot of things. My notebooks are like gold to me--especially where my memory fails. Live in the moment, but be sure to capture it too.

Traca, that is really good advise, and can be applied to many that have these unique life

experiences. Thanks for sharing!

He has journaled since he was a youngster. No problem there, as I think he will...

...have a shot at being the next Walt Disney/Steve Jobs/John Lasseter. (That would be Dad talking.)

As for the article, I'm sure he will write at some point (he's good at it), but a lot of what he learns working at Cirque is proprietary and protected, so even though it would probably make a great article, he would be committing professional suicide if he wrote that article.

Thanks for the advice.

Michael
