Most popular cuisine by state. This is kinda interesting...what do you think?

This is what Wiki says. I caught the end of Restaurant Impossible

recently that he had redone one.

We had a Gastropub here and it did not stay in business very long, no one went there

The talk I heard in the community said the word was off putting.
some said it sounded like a stomach ache. Got to be careful what you call your eating establishment. We had a Thai place called Phuck yo and it did not last long either. Not sure of the correct spelling but come to find out it was the name of their hometown in Thailand. Who would want to say lets go to....... They finally changed the name, redid the inside to include white tablecloths and cloth napkins and now it is very popular. The renamed it Westside Thai.

Gastropub around here boils down to: a bar that serves very decent to good food. . .

around here it is fancy burgers and such, upscale stuff, with many beers, mixed drinks and some regular steaks and such. You are served, but it is for sure more casual and usually cheaper than a place that promotes itself as a restaurant that serves alcoholic beverages.

Though--sometimes NOT cheaper. I just caught a "gastropub" in a search that is a short drive from where we live. Looked at the menu. Three burgers listed for $19, $22 & $24. This seems just a leetle bit high to me, who dines in the land of 9-12$ burgers in a bar/grill type place. . . . Pretty crazy.

I guess gastropub is a more upscale name for a "bar and grill". . .

That was great fun reading. Ohio came out the worse as far as I could see. Our daughter moved back

there years ago and it was not a good place for her cute figure. I knew CA would be heavy on Thai foods...almost everyone I know loves it.

Yea, and around here we are still in cowboy country where meat and potatoes

still rule the restaurants.....it is so much better than what it was with the influx of Asian families, Mexican, Indian....but most of the old mom and pop restaurants that were excellent have left and the franchises have moved in...way too many for my health and appetite.

A lot of the bar & grill/gastro pubs around here are not chain operations. . .

Which is what I like. Decent food with a selection of tap beers, both mass market and craft brews.

Yeah, those franchise operations abound here; all that building in the late 90s and early 00s till the slump resulting in (I swear on a giant stack of comic books) the same da** restaurants and fast food joints at EVERY mall, shopping center, strip mall, you name it.

Though with the slump, some areas' rents have gotten cheaper and this is where we are seeing new restaurants and pub/bar&grills go in. We have everything around here. Giant chain restaurants at the giant malls, Chinese, Taiwanese, Vietnamese, Mediterranean/Greek/Lebanese/Arabic places, a few french cafes, Italian all over (from pizza mom-pops to elegant sit downs). We have many Mexican all over: taquerias, cafes, fancy. It is pretty cool.

And now we are seeing a big influx of micro/mini breweries, which are fun to visit and taste at. Bring a lunch and sit outside slurping various beers with your food.--Or time your visit at the brewery to when they have food trucks arriving (have not done this yet. . . ).

It was interesting how they came to the results but in a long

state like Florida, with the largest population being in south Florida, I'm wonder if those farther north would agree with their results. South Fl. of course is heavy with Cubans and Cuban food. I don't think that's the case in the rest of the state.

The gastropubs I have been to here have *amazing* food!

We love the Ravenous Pig, really delicious, interesting food (not cheap, my husband was shocked) - it's my daughter's favourite place to celebrate her birthday. The food at Hawker's Asian Street Fare is also wonderful, we had roast duck and also cod with black bean sauce that was better than I have eaten anywhere. Tapas size plates, unfortunately (we were sharing, I just got a taste of each). I contemplate going back and ordering duplicate plates of just those two items. The beer is good too. smileys/smile.gif

Good to know, Lana! I've always wanted to go to RP but a coworker said it was

mediocre and not worth the price.

And I don't even know where Hawker's is--but I'll look it up.

THANKS!

Oh what fun that must be in have all the ethnic choices to dine in. Do they keep true to their food

or do they Americanize it?

There are some great gastropubs in Aville--King James Public House, LAB, Barleycorns, Buffalo Nickel

Some are Americanized, some are not . . .

Generally the quick, hot-table types of restaurants "dumb down" their food, but I have had some tasty stuff from them (and some not-so-tasty as well).

For about a 20-30 minute drive we can get to some ____-town areas: Mexico, Thai, China, Korea. About 45 minutes away are some really good restaurant pickins at some intensely Chinese transmogrified areas. And when I say good stuff, I mean good stuff! Competition is fierce, both in price and flavor, and all of us picky customers encourage this. I like to check out restaurants before visiting and I usually do this when shopping at the local Chinese/Oriental grocery. I look for a place that is crowded with people, crowded with tables, busy as heck. Then I go back mid afternoon or early-early for lunch and indulge in some very tasty stuff. It is also nice to go when the places are very busy as then you see a lot of stuff being served, and then you can tell your server--I want that dish over there. Some of these places have only minimal descriptions of the food in english, and sometimes we just point at something on the menu and we "takes our chances". Haven't been disappointed yet.

Jeeze, it is fun. I wish I could do it more often.

My house STILL ISN'T DONE. I'm in Mortgage Hell right now, emailing paperwork

back and forth and back and forth and back and forth and back and forth and back and forth and back and forth, ad nauseum.
