My aunt sent me this Cherry Slice Cookie recipe from the Houston Chronicle

I had a carton of cherries left over from my Christmas Cherry Cakes I make every year, and they were perfect!

Cherry Slice Cookies

1 cup butter, softened (the recipe didn't say unsalted or salted I used unsalted, but next time I will use salted since no salt is added below)

1 cup confectioner's sugar

1 egg

1 teaspoon vanilla

2 1/4 cups all purpose flour

2 cups maraschino cherries, halved (I used a 1 pound box of glace cherries, halved)

1 cup pecan pieces

Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

Add egg and vanilla and beat again

Add flour, mix until it is well incorporated

Stir in cherries and nuts.

Divide the dough into three pieces and form into logs. Wrap in waxed paper and chill or freeze.

Slice into 1/2 inch slices the number of cookies you want and freeze the rest.

Bake on parchment paper in a 325 degree oven for about 12 minutes or until they begin to turn golden.

Pretty good Melissa -- you are sweet to ask!

This whole process is quite annoying! Every time I set out to do something I have done for years, I have to go on an expedition to find the stuff I need to do it with!

Try to find a decent potato peeler, for example! Or the nylon cooking spoon that is just the right size and has the flat stainless steel handle. They don't make it anymore! AARRGGH

But life is good, even without Central Market. I am planning a springtime trip to central Texas for the Round Top antiques week and a shopping trip to the bulk section at CM for herbs and spices. The price saving will pay for my gas for the trip from Summerville!

How are you doing? Hope you are enjoying the early spring. smileys/smile.gif

I'm good. I'll bet that is so annoying.

Was it you who said ouch to the Sprouts prices when I said my Sunflower was being bought out by them? Ouch indeed! I find myself going in there less and less except for their sale produce.

On the bright side I did find a WF gift card in my purse yesterday that I thought I already used. But haven't.

I'm starting a quilting class next week. I've wanted to do this for a long time.

I loved going to Sprouts on Wednesdays for their new/old ad days for sale veggies

I just bought a janome sewing machine and am looking forward to our local quilt shop (check out the website for People Places and Quilts) classes!

thanks Jane! Round Top happens the first week of April. Miles and miles of vendors with all levels

of stuff - up to the very shi-shi Marburger tents with the high ticket design items. Food is great - we usually end up at Legal Tender (I think it's called) for enormous ham salad or egg salad on homemade bread which we cut and pass around , cold Coronas, followed later by huge slices of Royer' famous pies! So much fun and such good hunting! Not to mention how excellent it is to see the decked out bejewelled, booted Dallas ladies having a good time! Melissa? ?? Judy??

Course I had to go look it up smileys/smile.gif -- it's also in June and October!!

I can't do April, but I'm thinking seriously about one of the other months. My daughter still lives in Austin and any excuse to visit.....
