My cherished Plastic Containers. (yes, they deserve capital letters) I already ranted at post 3562

but I have to make an issue of this. I love my Rubbermaid containers, and I'm sick of having to go to Cosco or BJ's and buy more simply because my children (most often) don't return them. They are not cheap! I give them my food and they still think they can keep my containers? Little mutts.

For my cigar-smoking neighbor who smelled up my plastic-ware, I've...

started saving those nice firm disposable take-out dishes with lids from Oriental restaurants. He can keep 'em or not, but he no longer gets my good stuff.

I've learned to use zip lock bags and takeout Chinese containers Marilyn mentioned...

When sending home food with my girls. (and aluminum foil, of course)

That way, everyone's HAPPY! smileys/smile.gif

I buy some of those disposable plastic containers from Glad and Zip-loc

and use those to send home food with my family. I don't mind if I get those back or not. I actually really like them better than the Rubbermaid ones I have. Their concave lids make them efficient for stacking.

Are you ready to really go slumming? It's called Smart & Final. I have a love/hate relationship

with this chain, but they have the best selection of disposable to-go stuff. After a visit, I usually need either a half-hour at Bristol Farms or an hour at TJ's or 2 hours in the hot tub with Pinot Grigio for my sensibilities to recover.

Gladware...best invention and they seem to last forever. I do love Rubbermaid...

but they are pricy and I so often bring people food when they're sick, etc. I don't ask for the Gladware back. Saves everyone a trip.

Yeah, they are great and some of the $1 stores have their brands....

Ususally 2 containers for $1 for med and $1 each for larger. They last quite awhile.

So funny. I do the same and I save the roast chicken containers from the supermarket

and from Boston Market and I save...I could go on and on. BUT I STILL WANT THEM BACK. They are mine. Mine!

But Joe, call me "Crazy" and that wouldn't be far from the truth, but

I print "MOM" on the bottom of the containers I give to my kids, and I don't care how cheap they are. O.k., my mother always taught me that when someone gives you a container of food, no matter what it is, you should never return it empty.

It doesn't have to be a food item, just some little, nice gesture. But do I get that? NOOOOOOO, I don't even get my container.

Maybe they're intending to return it full, not getting around to it, and letting days/months/years

go by while their good intentions get them nowhere? Maybe they think they can't cook as well as you so they put it off? Just trying to give them the benefit of the doubt.

Disposable containers are the way to go.

My mom saved every to-go container she ever came across--had a whole cupboard of used stuff. She never let anyone leave emptyhanded, even if they were on your way to the airport!
