for their daytrip tomorrow. I chose the CI Chocolate chunk oatmeal cookies with dried cherries that Marianne posted a good while ago. the recipe typed out in the post calls for 21/4 cups oatmeal and that's what I used. the cookies are really good, decadent and also on the sturdy side. I found this post by Barbara for ATK version which is virtually the same cookie, just calls for 1 1/4 cups oatmeal. http://www.eat.at/swap/forum/index.php?action=display&forumid=1&msgid=10841

now I'm wondering if the recipe I used had a type-o, but I can't look up the CI recipe online. can anyone check this out? I've already baked them, and they are good, but would like to know which recipe is correct, or if there are indeed 2 versions. I think I would cut back on the oatmeal next time.

What Meryl said. Magazine May 2005 calls for 1 1/4 cups (3 1/2 ounces) oatmeal.

(edited to add)
plus 1 cup of nuts. Without the nuts, they recommend 2 1/4 cup oats.

Hmm...I found my original print-out from the CI site, and it called for 2 1/4 cups of rolled oats,

old fashioned, (6 1/3 ounces). I remember the dough was so thick I could barely give it a final stir with a spatula. CI must have corrected their recipe, but the cookies were still good before the change. Only been 7 years since I made them, might be time to make them again, LOL!

Aha! An explanation for the discrepancy in the recipes. The original May 2005 recipe uses pecans,

however, people made it omitting the pecans and complained that it spread too much. In the January 2006 issue, page 31, there is an explanation that the pecans are an integral part of the cookies' structure. CI retested without the pecans and found an extra cup of oats to replace the nuts worked well. They added that recipe to their website but it's not in a magazine, best I can tell.

The cherries make them really special. The ones I made w 2 1/4 oats are hearty and good for a brkfst

Cookie. I will definitely decrease the amount of oats next time.

Thanks everyone! I hope they're enjoying them with good coffee this morning. Beautiful day up here

After lots of rain
