and I have been having fun pouring through it on the past two rainy days we have enjoyed here in the upper Sacramento Valley. Loaded with photos, handy tips, and each recipe has a must-read quote from Sara on how to make the recipe a success. The first part of the book has the basics of kitchen tools, stocking your pantry, and basic education techniques such as how to cook beans, buying fresh produce, and even a complete explanation of the use of salt types and what her favorites are.

I was surprised that she does not bother with mise en place anymore but explains how she goes about cooking a recipe. Mainly taking advantage in the lulls in the cooking time of one ingredient to prep the next ingredient.

All and all, this is a lovely book, great for a beginning cook, or an old dog like me, who probably needs to refine her skills. I have a lot of recipes to try and look forward to learning a lot of new skills.
