My eldest son is at college in Los Angeles, and has discovered the joy of the crock pot.

He lives in a house with 5 or 6 like-minded roommates. They are all Christians, and often have groups meet at their house. It's a wonderful place, and my son is very blessed to have found it.

He cooked a little during the first 18 years of his life, but never really developed a passion for it. Now he has the bug.

He makes enchiladas, monkey bread, chicken tikka masala (in the crock pot), enchilada soup (crock pot), pulled bbq pork (crock pot) and several other concoctions. He gets raves!

The joy of cooking for friends and family has him very excited!

That is really great Michael and such a comfort for you to know that he is looking out for himself

Is he following any particular slow cooker book? I am always on the lookout for company worthy slow cooker recipes. I love using it, but find that recipes made in it do not come out as flavorful as the times I have used the Dutch Oven. Has this been your experience, as well?

I'm just taking big breaths;.... Can't believe your oldest is off in college. While we always

are a recipe / cooking forum, many times we hear about our families. I still think of your scouting posts, bake a cake a month for PTO auction, making 3 dimentional christmas trees out of cookie cutters.

I can't believe he is in college!!!

Ok; done with the deep breaths; Congrats on your sons love for cooking. You clearly created and fostered a fun environment that is food centric!

Yes, most of the time that is true. My son reminded me that our family is spoiled...

...because we know how good a dish can actually be, while most people are just as satisfied with the slow cooker version.

He's getting raves for the ones I listed, and he is slowly adding more. He's got limited time (double major = lots of work) and the cooking tools are slowly being brought up to speed (care packages with colanders and microplanes), so he'll get better and better.

My wife has a wonderful family that loves to eat! That gets me going...

...because there is nothing finer than watching a room full of loved ones feasting on a good meal!

I'm very blessed...

The eldest, who does the cooking, is a sophomore at Chapman University, near Disneyland.

The one still at home and graduating high school this May has been accepted to Loyola Marymount, but it is not his first choice. He applied at the deadline, January 15th, and they were the first to accept him, sending a congratulatory email on the 5th of February.

He has more than 15 more schools to hear from. Most will let him know in the next 3 weeks.

The waiting game is no fun...

My son was very happy to hear all the encouraging compliments from this forum...

...on his efforts in the kitchen.

He is clearly discovering the joy of cooking for friends and family!

I can walk to Loyola and there are students renting houses on my block

which is why I asked...I thought it would be funny if he was living across the street from me smileys/smile.gif
