My first day off since the flood & I've done nothing

Must be going around. I bought several Stouffer's things yesterday.

Sometimes I'm just not in the mood-really more not being in the mood for cleaning up the mess. Or I have other stuff around the house that needs doing and know I'll use staying in the kitchen as an excuse to not get other things done.

How are you making it? The pictures on the news have been really sad.

I had a small crash & burn last Sunday then depression set in Thursday

I put my neck out and brought in our new sister company that had FEMA experience - they sent about 19 folks in from all over the country to help get all the city buildings damaged assessed and estimated - in 3 days!!! So that was stressful. We decided to keep one full crew of all disciplines for a few more days.

FEMA officials said we had done an great job and were way ahead of the curve so our client was very happy.

Last Sunday I couldn't hold my head up and felt guilty since DH was leaving for Portland, OR Monday to start his new one year assignment there. I came home for a few hours and washed his clothes and got a few hours of deep hard sleep and went back until about 9pm.

Made it through the week. The President of our sister company called his folks to thank them (and actually we roll under that company now - they have 14,000 employees, we have 1,400). My boss, his boss - nobody from our team did the same for us. So that was a harsh reality Thursday. And the team from the sister company left - so that was a little depressing. I really got to know them well and really liked working with them. Then there was the disappointment of hearing that some of the coworkers were supposedly all mad at me for the role I had been given in the disaster recovery. And for the first time in two weeks I wasn't going 100 mph. So I sank into depression. Decided to drive north of town to a place just to get their wonderful crawfish. It made me cheer up - great waiter, great crawfish (2 - 3# orders worth).

I caught up on sleep today I think. I missed the farmers markets but I just couldn't get inspired. The other night the only thing that was open that I could get fish at was Captain D's and they had pineapple cream cheese pie. I wanted some so badly that this morning I found a box of Jell-O cheesecake and some pineapple and made one and ate two great big pieces.

Maybe tomorrow I'll feel like doing something.

DD graduates from high school next Sunday. I've got to clean the house and get ready.

((((Missy))) So sorry you're going thru all of that!

You're doing so much, it's no wonder you're feeling stressed. Have another piece of cheesecake!

Big hugs to you!

Missy, if ever there was a time for takeout! Don't underestimate the trauma you've been through

I second that - your body is craving comfort calories - give in! Sorry to hear that your

life has been turned upside down. I was thinking of you throughout the floods, but had no idea your job involved that type of work .. I thought you were a caterer ( Sounds like you did good!

Wise advice from Joe. Being on the go helps delay the grieving process

but it doesn't avoid it...It just come later, often at unexpected times. Having some down time, and sending hubs off to the west coast is a big deal, even without a flood! Hang in there Missy.

I know how those work groups dynamics can be and it can be a challenge. In the midst of it all, you just want to get through it. Later, you find out about all the drama. Whatever. Put your blinders on and move forward.

There's a quote someone shared with me years ago:

There are people who MAKE things happen.
Others WATCH things happen.
And the rest wonder...WHAT happened?!?

You, my dear, fall into the MAKE things happen crowd. Damn glad to know you! Now press on...
