My friend Lorna *finally* revealed her recipe for Red Velvet Cake. Whoo hoo!

A thank you to Lorna for us - sure is a pretty cake. I never thought of using the gel color!

The tip about wrapping a still warm cake in plastic to keep it moist was a new one on me

Lorna was courted by the Food Network and has a book coming out later next year. She's also quite into research and the science of baking so I bet that's a great tip. I'll have to try it.

Thanks for asking. Recovery is going to be very slow. It looks like she'll finally

get out of the hospital later this week. But she'll have 24 hour care, can't drink for a year (she was a wine buyer), and her parents have rented a house nearby for the next 6 months. (They're from New York State.)

She's in physical therapy after being in bed for 5 weeks, and is working with several other therapists for her memory work. Funny, they tested her ability by verbally planning dinner party...following the steps, etc. She also had to relay the recipe to her paella by memory, etc. Interesting how they tested her by things that are so relevant in her life. Apparently she hopped on the computer the other day and although she had to be coached, apparently she remembered her passwords, etc.

It's going to be a long haul, for sure. But since her anyerism, I've heard so many stories about people dying from them, I'm just happy she's still alive, you know?

Thanks for asking. And our lovely Heather in SF is even knitting my friend Catherine a new hat. smileys/smile.gif

I love that you've been following her progress! She went home today & they expect to

have 24 hour round the clock care for her for a while. I guess she still needs quite a bit of supervision but they practiced scrambling an egg and she still needs reminders on some steps, but all in all, we're super happy. Luckily now the bulk of her nausea is gone & she can start eating real food again. (To see a food lover like her with a feeding tube was downright heartbreaking...)
