My little lime tree just got delivered.Surprise-only ship on Monday-was holiday, but here it is-purty

Nan, this is really helpful. Can't see if they deliver to CAN but I doubt it. My kaffir is strainin

under the lack of heat and sun. I'd like to try to augment.

Do you have someone to care for it when you're sailing?

I think mine will be full time indoor, damn rain forest! will need a grow light too! Maybe. have a

local nursery order it for you? I had thought about that.

Seems like they don't like to dry out or have wet feet. recommend pebbles in the drain tray.

Actually I just put all the plants on one table and landlady comes downstairs and waters them. Several cactus need litle. This guy will need a drink once a week it looks like.

Can't wait till it's over shock of moving etc., will use a few leaves.

We had about six inches of snow today! wet, heavy and about half gone now, but it's getting cold, going to be an icy mess in the morning but supposed to warm up. Steep street in front of house faces the morning sun, thank goodness.

Nan, I have my dwarf citrus orchard in unglazed ceramic pots

and they need a drink about once/week. I have drain trays beneath the pots, the water collects there after watering, and is gone very soon afterwards.

Thanks, but we get 160"of rain a year, even in the summer, often inches every day and no covered area.

Kaffir limes are tricky. They have been banned in Canada, and until a few years ago, were banned in

all states other than Arizona and Florida. They breed a little pest that is uncontrollable. So we sure wouldn't get one into Canada. That one of the reasons that I cherish my little fellas.

I don't know where you live Nan but that sure is too much rain for me. I know you are on an island on the west coast but I thought you were just off Washinton.

Ketchikan,Alaska 600+ miles noth of Seattle. in the little islands strung along B.C. where are you?

Sounds cold. Doesn't Alaska just have that ring to it? Trembling ring?

Toronto.

Hoping to move to the west coast very soon. Or even sooner.

Sorry, it's a cold day again after 2 beautiful balmy ones.

It's cold up our way in Alaska, but we're 700+ miles north of Nan. she is closer

to Seattle than to us, thus the rainy/moderate climate for her.

I had a Kaffir Lime here in No. CA. It did so well and grew fast. I finally got rid of it .......

the darn thing had thorns an inch or more long. Strong, sharp, and stuck straight out. I was so worried about my dog and cat who like to visit my garden beds and sniff all the plants, especially the herbs. Sometimes they would play a game of chase. I was sick to have to up root it, but could not take a chance on an animal loosing an eye. Or us, while weeding around it.

Interesting was just reading young trees produce thorns to keep animals away. It's ok to cut them off

Nan, I almost moved to Ketchikan about a year and a half ago! Wow...

Who knows, we could have almost been neighbors. smileys/smile.gif

Actually, it was the pending move to Ketchikan that started spurred my serious interest in cooking...and taking cooking classes. I thought, "if I'm going to move up there...the least I could do is throw great dinner parties!"

Unfortunately the job fell through...but I had a fun time going up there for the interview. Luck was on my side with sunny weather the whole weekend in February. It was also fun to see most of the town boarded up during the non-tourist season.

What part of the island do you live on?

PS. Loved landing at the airport and walking on the tarmack...following the bear prints to baggage claim!

Am right above town, high up,steep street and lots of starirs, love it,Am snowed in now, thawing 36F

we got about six inches day before yesterday, and they rain we were supposed to get yesterday was white and fluffy! UPS made it up and little tree arrived in the middle of it all.
Actually it is pretty, but I missed my first weight bearing PT, having it Monday--am recovering from broken tibia plateau.
So hoping we do get some rain.
Cabin Fever three blocks from downtown!
You are in Seattle? Was just there for x-ray and going down for food show late March.
would love PM about what you would have been doing here etc.
Nan
