Ya. it's going to be a tough to fit that one into Words With Friends.

Noun

(humorous) A device used to create breaking points in egg shells in order to allow one to easily remove the top part of an egg using a knife without causing the shell to splinter; used for the humorous effect of its overly-formal construction.

I actually BOUGHT one of these (RÖSLE) and have been quite happy with it. No more itty bitty bits of nasty egg shell in my eggs. Haven't tried it with hard-boiled yet, but really pleased with it for soft-boiled.

Not only did I get over a phobia, I learned a new, totally unpronouceable word. Score!

Thanks!!! I love those!!! I could help you with the pronunciation, but...

I'd have to be there. And it really does make sense in German. I just love how the German's string words together to make new ones.

My all time champion German word was from when I was going to school in Austria. A building I passed every day on the way back to the dorm had this across the front:

Sozialversicherungsbürogebäude.

But, I think your egg cracker has bested that.

Can't wait to get one! I haven't seen one of these since I lived in Austria back in the last century!!!

Mine: Grantigezwiedelrwürzel'n

Styrian Dialect: Gnarled old onion root which means, roughly, thwarted old cow. I use it all the time. smileys/smile.gif

Feuerversicherungsgesellschaft

My father had a German classmate in college...who taught him this one.

I always took his word about the translation, but I had to check for myself today.
