Saturday Six:
Made Joe's Mother's Braised Chicken (Turkey) Curry Thighs on Friday night... oh so good. I can't seem to master cooking the rice in a big pot of water and then draining it like spaghetti, it always tastes water-logged. So next time it will be back to the traditional 1-1/2:1 in the rice cooker for me.
Saturday lunch at Turning Stone Casino, about 30 miles east of here. Oh dear... I've never seen so much food in one place. Their chicken pot pie was delicious and also beef stroganoff, cabbage with kielbasa. Gave me some good ideas for something new to try. A few will be shrimp and pepper alfredo, Utica greens, the cabbage with kielbasa, and butternut squash bisque. Yum.
Bran-banana muffins Sunday afternoon. The cinnamon in them made the house smell like Christmas all over again.
Made a big batch of macaroni-beef-ricotta pie for the week. Freezes well, microwaves easily. Winter comfort food!
Working on mailing labels for an upcoming reunion - I won't say which one! ;o) - over 700 in the class, and so many different versions of their "current" address, so it's a little futile right now.
I may try making some lemon curd this week... the Meyer lemons did sweeten a little bit, and I may make that to go with some oat biscuits that I'll probably make too.
Thursday we went to an old restaurant that we learned has new owners. They do not make any of my favorites anymore (their honey-almond cheesecake, their zucchini-carrot with tarragon). Basically, the ones that I was looking forward to ( Instead they served almost-raw lentil salad as an appetizer, rubbery spaetzle, and tough weiner schnitzel. Disappointing. I always say the more I cook, the less I enjoy restaurant food.
