Pondering Pat's musings about not liking Lamb or chevre--I don't like either of those either and wonder if those tastes are somehow connected.

Pondering why my dog is missing the hair from the right side of her snout. I had to trim the other side to match and now she looks like an afghan labradoodle. did she get too close to the campfire??

bought killer cheap tickets to Maui---$276 rt fr Anchorage in Aug. Now, must dig out the South Beach book for killer lo carbing.

haven't a clue what to cook this weekend.

Pondering why I had my plants in the ground before some of you in the lower 48. that was odd.

I've been craving onion rings. must try those baked ones recently posted.

Wow - Anchorage to Maui! Talk about a contrast... my Saturday Six include

thinking about making Michael's fried cauliflower tomorrow

mowing the lawn for the 5th time already (all this rain!) and then coming back inside for a nice, cold, sugar-free peach iced tea

looking up my recipe to make Nutella-filled cookies

we just came back from the farmer's market where I bought homegrown (where? not my home, yet) tomatoes, green peppers, a basket of sweet onions, a cantelope for $1, one lemon, and 7 geraniums

thinking maybe I'll make sausage sandwiches with the first 3 above ingredients to go along with the pan-fried cauliflower

envious of Ang who will be going to Maui!)

and mine are.....

cutting off some tree branches.... guess I'm not in NYC anymore

still getting books to used book store. DH never threw out anything. even had his zoology book from college and half those animals are extinct!

replace toilet flapper.... geeze

water plants as we've had sunny days for a week now.... woohooo!

making goat cheese ravioli for "smitten" for dinner tonight smileys/smile.gif

thinking of the beautiful tan Ang will be getting....

My Saturday Six

Went to the Garden Center and bought some plants today. They have the best waffels there! smileys/smile.gif

I bought fresh strawberries today. We had them for lunch with sugar and cream.

I have started eating fruit salad with nuts and cottage cheese for breakfast, and it's such a great energy boost. I had an apple, a few blueberries and and some grapes with hazelnuts and cottage cheese today.

I spent most of the day in the garden planting the plants I bought at the garden center, so dinner was....fried rice!

Fried rice tastes very good after a day in the garden, but the ice cream for dessert was fantastic. (Ben & Jerrys)

I'm baking sweet buns tomorrow. I need to work out a recipe that uses oil instead of butter. Sweet buns with chocolate chips - That's what I'm making.

Saturday Six

Waking up EXTRA early to hand out water & sports drinks to runners in a half marathon/10 K run at the Solano Land Trust event.

Baking 53 cone shaped cupcakes FOR THE LAST TIME! (actually only got 52 so maybe one of the seniors won't show up...)

Picking fresh arugula out of the garden (yes, I got addicted last year)

Checking the romaine-shaped radiccio in anticpation of a new addiction

Counting the little green tomatoes on the vines

Drying rose geranium leaves for those wonderful scones

My Saturday Six

1. I was supposed to meet a sort-of-former-colleague for lunch, but he canceled, so I got to picnic in Bryant Park with my husband, instead, and a very good egg salad sandwich. smileys/smile.gif

2. Am making banana bread with Starbucks chocolate tossed in. (What do you think of this stuff? Everywhere I see it, it's on sale, so now I have a gross of it, practically. And hey--it's not bad AT ALL.) smileys/wink.gif

3. Chicken legs are marinating in oregano-basil-fajita-garlic goo.

4. Made pain au chocolat for breakfast this morning. (Well, cheater's p. au c.: with the ol' tube of croissant dough.)

5. Going to Prague in two weeks! Do you know what this means?! FRIED CHEESE. I need a bumper sticker that says, "Ask me about my fried cheese."

6. Unless the former colleague rings up and wants to reschedule lunch for tomorrow, I'm going out to Rockaway Beach and have tacos. smileys/smile.gif And therein hangs a tale.

Happy weekend!

My Saturday Six

1: Broccoli finally appeared at the Farmer's Market today, young tender, single stalks.
2: Cooking a boneless leg of lamb marinade in pepper and burgundy, thanks to Trader Joe's.
3: A side will be a beautiful rice dish, with wine, onion, garlic and saffron. Chunks of tomatoes float on the dish and stay on top during baking. Beautiful!
4: I'm enjoying my new 24 inch monitor.
5: Got started on the new rock garden plants today and the small hill looks so much better.
6: Watched Slum Dog Millionaire today and wonder what all the fuss was about, other than those children were so beautiful. That is a beautiful race!

My Saturday six.....

A little extra sleep this morning -- mmmmm!

Home depot to get a new pot for my favorite rose, Lavendar Lace -- floundering in a too small pot with some volunteer succulents hogging all the nutrients.

side trip to DQ for a cone (guilty pleasure)

Stopped in at the gym to see my buddies take a Zumba class -- was soo jealous, but I have to finish my PT so I don't injure that tendon again! It looks like so much FUN!!!

Grilled a marinated flank steak for spinach and arugula salad tonight. Good with the artichokes I got at Costco last week!

Spent time with my little Maya on the webcam. She is growing so fast! Christening is in NYC in 3 weeks -- can't wait to see her!

My Saturday Six - the good, the bad, and the ugly:

Here's the bad and the ugly:
The garbage disposal broke, the glass canister holding my favorite crackers broke, the large kitchen overhead florescent light broke, and I'm broke. Oh yeah, that's only 4... Here's the fifth - I've gone for 3 days straight on only 5 hours of sleep - I need 8. Can't think of a 6th, but the night's still young.

Okay, here's the good:
Today is my husband Lou's birthday, and he loved his presents.
The cake came out great - made it last night, and will assemble it tonight after dinner - let's hope THAT doesn't break.
I worked out on the treadmill even though I didn't want to.
A roast chicken dinner is in the making.
Lou is making the whole dinner.
I'm still coherent, although that's a matter of opinion.

Eva, try this combo sometime,

I start with the cottage cheese, then shake some cinnamon, then chopped apples, drizzle with honey, sprinkle sunflower seeds and finish with some raisins. That is something I have for lunch sometimes and it's delicious. I bet peaches would be good too. I need to buy some cottage cheese today!

I never seem to do Saturday Six but Sunday Seven......late again.....

1 Thinking how great it was doing a cooking morning at Jamie Oliver's "Recipease" last week

2 Got the ingredients to make J.O.'s Pork-en-Croute I made when there.

3 Can I sub coke cans for beer cans in tonights braaied "Beer can chicken"

4 Really shouldn't be thinking about food as the old weight has scooted up these last 6 weeks.

5 Cant wait to serve the preseved figs I brought back from S. Africa. They are so wonderful.

6 Lovely to be back on the Rock again however the heat is horrid.

7 Marilyn's 'Cake Balls' is one of the funniest things I've ever read from her....she sure makes one's day get off to a good start.

Saturday Six....

- Gardens...This is all new to me...What is up with the weeds?

- Mushrooms going bad....Wanted to make a tapas recipe for a gathering. Of course, I had too much on the menu, were not used...Now, need to find a way to use slightly old shrooms. Thinking soup.....

- Celebrated my "dating anniversary" with my dh yesterday....Made MIL recipe for Shrimp Diablo, rice, etc...

- Peas, Beans....Now I need to think about a trelilis or something to keep them off the ground.

- I think I need an intervention with the garden.....Need to continue to plant...

: ) Having fun!
