My Saturday Six

Kitchen refurb is done and it's beautiful except for one set of doors which can't close because someone, either the fellow who did the measuring at this end or the one making the doors goofed. The doors will be replaced as soon as the new ones arrive from the factory.

Began organizing a few drawers, which I've discovered are narrower and have less depth because, of course, the new ones have rollers. Not a problem except for my spice drawer as the jars are too tall. Have to think that one through.

At 10 I picked up our daughter who came to help me since Ian is out of commission after his surgery to correct a deviated septum. Poor guy! Imagine feeling stuffed up with the worst cold ever and not being permitted to blow your nose.

Sarah and I worked hard for the next few hours. She filled all the upper shelves with stuff I don't use often. More culling happened as we worked. We emptied about 10 boxes of stuff.

Prepared a simple lunch of pulled turkey (turkey thigh had been cooked in a slow cooker doused with BBQ sauce) sandwiches and cold slaw. Ian had a bowl of mushroom leek soup since chewing is painful.

After lunch clean up there was more unpacking, sorting and shelving. Things took shape and I think the kitchen will be better organized.

After working another few hours, I took DH grocery shopping. It was a good opportunity for me to shop as well.

Rested for a bit before tackling dinner. Was very happy Ian only wanted an omelet. I obliged and it was a good thing.

Had a quiet evening knowing that Sunday would be another day in the kitchen unpacking, sorting and shelving...AND doing laundry.

My weekend six....

Such a great weekend so far, the last before classes begin and life gets just a little more frantic smileys/wink.gif

1. We had originally planned a weekend with almost no cooking, very simple stuff. Phil made steamed crab legs for our dinner yesterday and a salad

2. Watched a great movie last night, Twenty Feet from Stardom - about backup singers. I highly recommend it!

3. A couple of friends told us they would stop by on Sunday (tonight) to bring us a bottle of their special home made salsa, so we decided to get some Mex stuff going as a thank you. Phil will make some quesadillas, I am making mushrooms stuffed with chorizo, manchego cheese and spinach, and a Jalapeno popper dip.

4. went running yesterday and did kickboxing today plus a super long walk with one of our dogs -

5. Phil and I were both independently challenged within 24 hours of each other for the Ice Bucket challenge - we did the challenge today, we had such a blast! A cold blast, but still a blast smileys/wink.gif

6.Made a box to donate clothes and shoes, in a sort of late "spring cleaning" move. Feels great to start the new semester a little 'lighter"

Weekend few....

1. I tried the fresh corn polenta with eggplant and tomato sauce from Plenty--REALLY GOOD!

2. Grilled NY strip steaks--oh so tasty......

3. Pear Upside down cake made with little pears they had at the farm market.

4. Trays and trays of roasted tomatoes turned into soup for the winter (nothing better than a bowl of tomato soup and a grilled cheese on a cold winter day)

5. Sunday morning was beautiful so I rode 12 miles on bike than ran a 5K to get ready for next weekend's mini sprint triathlon in the neighborhood. Very casual. You do not have to do all three events yourself. You can break up events any way you want. A friend is doing the swimming and I will ride and run. May be the last person back but it will be fun anyway! We have been having a great time with team names, ours is A Builder and A Baker (swimmer is the neighborhood contractor for home renovations). The one I like best is TOMAAR-what is that you say? Two Old Men and A Ringer!! LOL!!!

6. Finally figured out how to quilt the borders of the quilt I am working on. I am just learning and don't have a good feel on how to coordinate the quilting to the design of the quilt. I fretted for so long and am finally happy with my decision and got it started yesterday. Will probably take me a week or more to get the border finished then just the binding left.

Your triathlon sounds amazing!

great that they organize it in a way that you can skip one of the races sharing it with someone else. Swimming has always prevented me from doing a triathlon, no way I could do that part, no matter how short the distance would be.

but if I could share with someone.... too bad we don't have this type of event here where I live.

I hope you can post about it next week! I love to live vicariously through you....

LOLOLOL!!! I do tend to cram the weekends and need to go back to work for a break!

I wish to be retired very badly to have more time to cook and such but DH just rolls his eyes at me when I mention that!! So that leaves me the weekends...

Sally a couple in our neighborhood did all the organizing. They have worked really hard

and done a great job. This is their first race and they have been so encouraging for anyone to participate (over 18). It has really inspired folks to get out for some exercise which is great to see. It will be a fun event followed by beer and pancakes, LOL!!!

That is really super nice!

I would do it in a heartbeat if someone could bail me out of the swimming. Would have to train a little for the biking part, but that' s definitely not a problem. Well, assuming the distances are not on the gruesome level

while we were in Colorado, they were having their famous 100 mile race in a town nearby - unreal, don't you think? The newspaper had a long, detailed article about it, and it's the kind of thing that simply blows your mind, that some human beings can pull this type of accomplishment. The final 20 miles they need someone to run along because they get pretty much delirious. The race sets a time limit, 30 hours. Can you imagine? Run through day and night, in the middle of the woods.... It fascinates me.
