My Saturday Six

1. Baby artichokes. We consumed four of these today; I grew up eating them with mayonnaise with curry powder mixed in. Is that a '70s thing? Anyone else do this?

2. Been translating cookbooks for the last month; have 1 month, and two more cookbooks, to go. Trying a few apricot cake ones this week and will post if they're successful.

3. Mario Batali was signing books at the Union Square farmers' market today; alas, we were wandering around the park and didn't make it down there...

4. Need reliable white-wine recommendations for summer, please!

5. Gradually building an herb garden, starting with one spindly rosemary bush.

6. Glad to be coming out of hibernation (read, post-winter and post-layoff glum) to see what everyone's cooking and enjoying. smileys/smile.gif

Best wishes--

Erin

Hi Erin! I like Sombras Del Sol Sauvignon Blanc from Chile. Another good one is Monkey Bay.

I know you're not looking for reds, but Sombras Del Sol's Carmenere is excellent. Also...

Raymond Vineyard and Cellar Merlot Reserve (Napa) - this is exquisite!
*Note: Only buy the Reserve. Raymond Vineyard R Collection Merlot is inferior, ie, crappy.

My Sunday Six

Commercial kitchen...looking for one asap, I cannot wait for the shelter any longer. So much red tape and we are already into the fourth week of the farmers market. I have to move on. Sigh.

Cooked all day and sent it all home with my stepdaughter. Fun cooking. But I went to get a snack, nada, I sent it all home with her. I really want some oyster chicken wings.

Cleaning house tomorrow when I would much rather be outside planting the garden.

Loving my very unique neurotic dogs in this nice weather.

Loving spring so much.

We had a surprise congrats/bon voyage party for my son-in-law tonight. He never saw it coming and it was very nice. He just recently got a fantastic job and we are all so happy for him. It was a very nice night, but I sure would like some of those oyster chicken wings right now.

I don't know much about white wine but I have never gone wrong with a cold Chablis.

My Weekend Six

1. Made traca's ravioli salad for dinner on Friday. DH loved it so much he wanted it again for dinner Saturday, but unfortunately I had only bought one pound of Ravioli, so he'll have to wait. Anyways, it was great finding a vegetarian recipe that works for both of us smileys/smile.gif

2. I have peas, red beets, salad, tomatoes and pepper growing in my greenhouse. It's my first spring owning a greenhouse and I absolutely love it!

3. I'm spending sunday in the garden. DH has promised me to go to the garden center with me today and help me with the heavy lifting. I am feeding my plants with cow manure and chicken manure, trying to be as organic as I can.

4. I have pruned my cherry trees fr the frist time. It was scary, but satisfying. I looked like a coplete idiot, with my book on pruning in one hand and my cutter in the other *LOL*.

5. Once done, pruning doesn't seem that scary any longer, so i'm pruning my potentilla today.

6. Made a wonderful rice pilaf with brown rice, onions, broccoli, cashew nuts, parmesan and parsley. Grilled a couple of slices from a log of Chevre to go with the rice. It was a nice Saturday night meal.

I'm addicted to Kim Crawford Sauvingnon Blanc and just discovered

Cona Sur (I think I'm spelling it wrong, another SB that is delicious and under $8 a bottle. I get Kim Crawford at Plum Market for $12.99 (usually its about $18-19 elsewhere)

My weekend six

Funny, I just bought an artichoke yesterday, too.

Deciding what to do with my rotisserie chicken that we didn't even go into after a change of plans earlier this week. Thinking nlb's creamy chicken casserole or Dawn_MO's green enchilada casserole. Pantry is packed - I'm sure I have all the ingredients for both!

Still wondering why I didn't get called to work for the census - I scored 98% and said I could work day or evenings any day of the week. I thought it'd be fun, and could definitely use the money, but all I got was the government run-around for an answer.(

Making some kind of quick bread today, even though it's going to be 85 here. Honey oat bread maybe? It calls for carbonated liquid and all I have is lemon seltzer. How do you think that would god?

I really need a vacation!

And I really need to go low-carb again - this is after buying a (small) luscious-looking chocolate cake at a church bazaar yesterday! Teeny slices are ok, right?! Also bought an egg poacher pan and wondering what else it could be used for. Must be SOMEthing I could steam in there. Not bad for 25 cents.

I'm proud of myself that I finally got the Cracker Barrel green bean recipe right. It's a lb (or so) of cut green beans simmered with a ham bone. Skim off the fat and you have what I've been looking for for a long time.

Sorry about the kitchen; I was recall that the meeting was earlier this week. I hope you can find

one. I know how much you love the market. I do hope something comes up.

Typing to fast, above would be that I recall, or I was thinking... (You were in my thoughts)

Thanks Dawn and Barb,

My SIL was really pleased that we would throw a party for him like that.
The shelter hasn't said no yet, but I just cannot wait any longer. I have a small business in mind and will talk to them tomorrow. Thanks for thinking of me!

Weekend Six

1. Baked a coffeecake for a church brunch; I couldn't attend the brunch but promised food. Dropped it off before my Zumba class.

2. Cleaned out the fridge. Starting fresh this week.

3. Fried chicken for lunch on Saturday. Yum.

4. We went out for dinner on Saturday night with friends. I thought the restaurant was terrible. I had chicken marsala and it was so blah. No taste at all. It makes me so mad to pay good money for indifferent food. Andy tells me that the place is known for its pizza, so that's what I'll try if we go there again.

5. Overslept on Sunday (stayed up until 1am watching "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" episodes), Andy had a fire call in the middle of the night, and I woke up with 30 minutes to shower, eat, and make it to church on time for choir. I had a banana for breakfast.

6. Leftovers for dinner tonight. This week I'm going to make Ron in Worcester's Pad Thai, a lamb gyros recipe from Epicurious, and one of the trout recipes y'all posted earlier. So exciting!

Beer is a carbonated liquid, right? I just made some heavenly rye bread w/ ale.

Athough it was mostly Ultra Grain from Costco(white/ww)2.5 cups, only 1 cup rye, 1 cup oats, 1/4 c corn meal, molasses, brown sugar.
