My Saturday Six

Whew - I will not complain about the heat, I will not complain about the heat...

Today I found out that a guy I used to work with is an unemployed pastry chef... so that's why he was always bringing in perfect-looking cheesecakes.

I've been going farmer's market crazy lately. Peaches, melons, cherries,

tomatoes, zucchinis, broccoli. And cubano peppers (?!). I got a deal, now I have to make something with them.

Making smittenkitchen's blueberry crumble bars tomorrow. That is after picking 3 quarts of blueberries in a light drizzle. I just love 'em.

Packed up and took the kids to a matinee ("Grown Ups") this afternoon after picking the blueberries.

Yaayyy, finally a yellow flower on my tomato plants. At this rate, I'll get homegrown tomatoes in September - not a bad thing...

Trying the gazpacho that Janet posted the other day, with tips that Michael in Phoenix added.

My weekend six

I've been a bit under the weather today so this morning made cinnamon toast and tea. I had forgotten how good this was! I mixed up cinnamon sugar in an old Spice Islands jar so that I can have this more often on the days I don't feel like eating.

I did go out for a little walk and bought fruit from the corner store. The nice couple who run it stock things upon request, like Parmesan Goldfish crackers and my favorite brand of cat food and litter. Today she had Driscoll's raspberries, and tubs of blueberries and some perfectly ripe pluots. I bought some and made a fruit crisp this evening for dinner. Yum.

Tomorrow I plan to make chicken stock for soup for lunch during the week, and macaroni and cheese for dinner. I have a gorgeous avocado to have for breakfast too.

I have been knitting and endless river of mohair lace for a sweater I started in 2006 and am almost finished, just another foot or two to go. I'm seeing my knitting expert friend Monday at a Giants baseball game, the Stitch and Pitch game where the knitters attend, funny, no? The team usually gives us a nice gift, last year it was a bobblehead! She's going to help me seam the sweater together, something I'm terrified about doing wrong.

Tomorrow if it's not too cold I am going to work on the couch again, this time the febreeze treatment. It still smells faintly of mildew and I hope it works. Otherwise I'm going to save up for a professional cleaning. It's so pretty although it's narrow in the seat, but fits well in my bay window.

I want to make jam next weekend as I should get my first paycheck this week. The strawberries are still perfect now and the other berries are so good too. I think I just need 4 cups of fruit and I have the recipe from Princess Diana's chef, from Balmoral castle.

Hope you all are having a good weekend and are getting relief from the heat, although it's been especially foggy here lately!

As we get olfer, it's funny how all the chairs and couchs get "narrow in the seat" - teehee

'Hope you feel better soon. Enjoy the thrill of cashing a paycheck again!

The many aches and pains now are awful so I dread to think what

will happen when I get that olfer! I think I don't want to know....;0)

My weekend six

1. I have finally decided which hot food that I want to make for the Farmer's Market.

2. I just made Bub a Italian blend, parm, tomato, fresh basil grill cheese sandwich, with a sprinkle of garlic salt. He made mmmmmmm noises, and he doesn't much care for basil.

3. I am going to go look and see how my pickling cukes are coming. I may get to make some dill pickles today.

4. I have a huge bag of peaches to do something with. I think I am going to make jam and chutney.

5. Last night while I was doing dishes, a frog jumped on the window in front of me and made me smile.

6. Looking out my window right now, I am looking at a Praying Mantis on my window screen. There must be something growing there that they like, because I see them there every year.

"Coldest winter ever spent was a summer in San Francisco...."

Is there any possiblity you can reupholster the sofa? It is probably the stuffing that is retaining the mildew smell. So surface spraying isn't going to cut it, sorry.

My weekend six

1. Can't believe it was a week ago that I was hosting that baby shower.

2. Thursday night we grilled steaks, potatoes, corn. My FIl brought over a salad with lots of avocado. Yum.

3. Baked a chocolate cake from a mix--horrors! It's pretty good, though.

4. Watermelon for breakfast. Yum.

5. Popcorn with parmesan cheese for lunch.

6. Drinking lots of raspberry iced tea. Using up all that simple syrup I made a month or so ago.

I know Dawn. Typos can sometimes be so funny and that one just hit my

funny bone! I don't know why but I had a great laugh. Thanks
