This is a list of the silly stuff I have done over the last few years; it started off with just adding to their lunchbox, one of those trick packs of gum, (purchased at the dollar store) when you pull out a piece, a foam thing snaps on your finger. It rec'd quite the attention, kids were confused why I had gum in their lunchbox, knowing that gum is "off limits" in the school. So, they pulled it out of their box, put it in the center of the table, everyone stared, said "hmm" until someone finally "pulled" the gum and it "snapped"....
That is what started the excitement for my kids lunch boxes on April 1.
This is a list of what I have done in their lunchbox over the last few years.....
- Filled Sunny D Orange Juice bottle with Orange Jello
- Hot Dog Bun filled with Tootsie Rolls
- Spaghetti that was pierced through hot dog pieces and cooked; kind of looked like spiders
- cut open the bottom of tiny pringles container and filled with carrot sticks then taped up.
- cut open a small bag of muffins and filled with popcorn
- Filled the small M&M containers with tomatoes
- Put their sandwich in one of those candy boxes that you purchase at a movie theater
- put fake bugs on above sandwiches
- put fake teeth (from halloween stuff) biting down on the muffins from package above and put in a clear container to be seen from lunchbox
For next year, I may recycle some of the ideas, or consider:
- going to McD's and asking for a french fry container, then filling it up with either apple slices / sugar cookies in shape of fries; with raspberry jam on the side
- Sushi Rolls made out of rolled out white bread, filled with veggies
- Gummy worms made out of jello using plastic straws
- putting their snack inside a snack bag, inside a ziplock bag, inside a ziplock bag, inside a larger ziplock bag, inside a brown sandwich bag
This year, I included breakfast....
- I froze their cereal bowls; (spruced it up in the am with fresh milk, cereal, but base was completely frozen)
- Wrote April Fools on Toilet Paper and had it floating in the bowl for their morning wake up.
Here is a glimpse of what I have done to my kids. If they need therapy when they are adults, you will all understand why.
