My Sparklin' Saturday Six

Farmer's market bright and early before the heat this a.m. I got "first of the season" homegrown sweet cherries (guy said they were about 2 weeks early), passed on the sour ones; avocados; Vidalia onions; light green zuccs; radishes; and a lavander plant.

Came home and made pineapple cole slaw and some dill-lemon zest chicken marinade for a pool party tomorrow afternoon at a neighbor's. Just hamburgs and chicken on their grill, but it should be fun, and HOT (going to have a string of 90+ days this week).

I still have a quart of purple! raspberries in the refrigerator from picking them last week... Maybe blueberries and raspberries in pancake batter tomorrow?

Iced tea and lemonade mixed together is the best thirst-quencher and I seem to forget that from summer to summer...

Going to fireworks and the symphony tomorrow night if I can stay awake! Wondering what everyone else is doing out there.

Maybe a trip to Lake Ontario to do something fun on Monday. A picnic maybe? I bought an apple pie at Wegmans for FOUR DOLLARS - was going to make one, but you can't amke it for that price. I bought 2 - now to make room in the freezer for the other one.

We had trout on a cedar plank last night, which tasted yummy even though the plank caught fire when DH turned the heat up for a moment so it would start to char.

I bought 10 lb of fresh, delicious litchis today for $30! Luckily elder DD came home this weekend. If you’re in the Orlando area, they may still have them next week – it’s the produce store on the corner of Rangeline and the 434. Had some for tea, and they’ll be dessert later. They are so pretty - they even have the stalks and leaves on them, just like when I was young, so much nicer than the desiccated boxes in the supermarkets.

Started making Apricot liqueur today, combining the family recipe with the suck-my-thumb technique I used successfully last year. The syrup wasn’t apricot-y enough, so I put in more apricots and set it to boil again. Of course, I forgot about it, and it boiled syrup over onto my ceramic stove. I wiped most of it off immediately – hope the stovetop doesn’t pit.

I forgot to go to Costco today for blueberries, so we’ll have Key Lime Pie tomorrow instead of Charlie’s wonderful no-bake blueberry cheesecake. We all love KLP, so that’s OK. We’re having ribs tomorrow – vegetarian DD can have her veggie burgers smothered in the rib sauce.

I didn’t get to the library either, and I only have one library book left to read! Guess I’ll have to clean/tidy the house instead.

In view of the large black cloud hovering over the area, we decided not to go to Red, Hot and Boom! We’ll watch the fireworks on TV tomorrow, and will enjoy a bottle of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc in comfort tonight
