I'm Melissa, I've been an active lurker since about 1997. I started a job where i had internet access and since I was engaged and living with fiance, I thought MAYBE I should try to cook occasionally.
My family is from the south, and my maternal grandmother is a wonderful cook in the southern tradition. So the interest was there, but I was always too busy as a child to watch what my mom or my grandmother were doing and how! My first cookbook was "where's mom now that I need her?" and had a bunch of basic cooking things... like how to boil an egg (yes I didn't even know that).
In 1999, now husband and I were transfered to switzerland for two years! I wasn't working so I finally had all the time in the world to cook. I lurked on gails and attempted about 1 recipe a week.
I went back to work upon our return from the states and didn't have as much time to lurk as I would like. Now with 2 children, one starting school, I am starting a new life as a stay at home mom. Once again, trying to USE the pile of recipes that I have collected over the years from you all.
I was so crushed by the demise of gails, and so happy when I found that the tradition continues here.
I love reading all the thoughts, ideas and of course recipes here. I have learned so much from all of you. I won't say I'm a great or even a good cook, but I am a happy cook!
THANKS FOR EVERYTHING!
Melissa
