My Sunny Saturday Six

It's been so long since it rained, I'm glad it's now pouring out there today. We are in the orange of the radar right now (yay!).

Boy scout chicken barbecue yesterday was a success

Got to try that lemony potato salad for my mother's birthday lunch this week (sound good).

Turkey burgers with raita tonight, wondering about sides. I have mint in the garden, thinking along those lines. Ideas? Maybe that lemony potato salad.

Never buy gas station pizza

"Taste of Syracuse" continues here today. It's a festival in downtown Syracuse by local restaurants featuring $1 samples of their signature food. Rain may mean smaller crowds, so I'm looking forward to it even more now.

My Weekend Six

I weeded my garden. It took me hours but it was so worth it. (I can see all my flowers now smileys/wink.gif

I made fried rice for dinner. Of all fast foods, fried rice is my absolute fave.

I made chocolate muffins for breakfast on Saturday. DH thought they were a little on the dry side (not noticable to me but...) so I made a cheese frosting and decorated them with shaved dark chocolate. Since the muffins were covered with frosting and shaveed chocolate, I couldn't freeze them. I gave a few to my sister in law but I and DH *had* to eat the others ourselves(I don't like to throw away food, know what I'm sayin'? smileys/wink.gif

Note to self: Do not make chocolate muffins for breakfast if you plan on getting into your swimsuit any time soon.

We had wonderful weather this weekend. It felt like summer finally arrived!

I bought a ton of ice cream on Saturday. Unfortunately, we ate it all during the weekend.

Note to self II: DO NOT buy extensive amounts of ice cream if you plan on getting into your swim suit any time soon. smileys/wink.gif

Weekend six (with cake diaster story included)

One of my dearest friends came to visit this weekend; had a great time.

1. Don't remember what we did on Friday night. Very sad...!

2. On Saturday, I made a coffeecake to take to coffee hour after church on Sunday. (We're all divided up into hospitality teams to make coffee, bring snacks, greet visitors, usher, etc.) I make this coffeecake in a Bundt pan, and was proud that I had remembered to put half of the pecan/sugar/cinnamon mix in the bottom of the pan because the bottom becomes the top. But then I got distracted by a story on NPR and put in ALL the dough, instead of half, the rest of the nut mixture, then the rest of the dough. So I had to dig out half the dough, dump in the nuts, and redo the dough. Baked up beautifully, though.

3. Chinese take out on Saturday night. Didn't love the shrimp toast but the pot stickers were great.

4. Drove to church on Sunday with my friend. Friendly jogger waved at us, kept waving at us, then pointed wildly. I keep on driving. "Who is that nut?" I ask. "I don't know her." Then something flashed in my rear view mirror and I watched as my coffeecake sailed off the car and hit the road, exploding into a million pieces. "Oh," sez I. belatedly remembering that I had put the cake on the roof of the car with the intention of putting in on the back seat. "Guess I should have paid attention to the jogger." Amazingly, the cake made it a couple of miles before falling off. No coffeecake for coffee hour...

5. Lunch on Saturday: cold cuts, and I made fresh egg salad. Yum.

6. Dinner on the deck: pork satay with grilled onions and squash. French bread, red wine. Fire in the fire pit. Roasted marshmallows.

No, it was wrapped in foil (long scratch across the roof of the car).

I retrieved all the foil from the road but left the cake for the birds.

my weekend six

cabin weekend with friends for dinner Sat---grilled brats on mustard rolls and Warm German Potato Salad(recipe from Better Homes and Gardens cookbook---was my Mom's secret recipe, LOL)and cucumber/tomato salad. first BBQ of the season. yay!

made a fruit tart using Splenda. the dough comes out a bit "tough", but it was enjoyed by all.

I have a huge bag of rhubarb to cut up and freeze. found a bag of frozen from last year and will make up a batch of jam for the summer---must find a very lo or no sugar recipe.

opening day double header of our baseball league up here in Alaska. It's a summer league for college fellas from all over the country. very fun and lovely weather. many peanuts were devoured---and a hot dog too. it was my first game--so fun.

My garden needs some attention

Baked a simple rhubarb coffeecake for work. first of the season.

Oh No! I thought #2 was the disaster, until "the rest of the story" LOL. I'm hungry for egg salad

I once drove a couple of miles with my camera on the roof of the car.

Luckily, I drove very slow and the camera didn't fall off.

I drove a mile with my wallet on the hood... DH asked me how I managed

that - "it was right in front of you!" - until I explained the steering wheel was JUST in the right (wrong) place and I couldn't see it.

Nice, honest family went out and picked it up when it fell off as I turned the corner and left a message for me on my answering machine. Whew.

Oh wow... sorry to hear that, but the birds had a nice brunch!

How "environmental" of you ;o) Too bad about the scratch though... can you polish it out with rubbing compound? Flying aluminum foil couldn't have made that deep of a scratch, or could it?
