As soon as I get a snailmail address from her, I'm going to buy a VISA prepaid gift credit card at the local CVS or Walgreens and send it to her Certified Mail. That way, she can use it in any store, for any needs.

A $100.00 card costs $4.95, and I will send it Certified, because if you send it regular mail, postal employees can tell if there is a credit card inside, and "postal employees steal". This tidbit was told to me by a Postmaster when I sent a gift credit card to someone (and I worked for the P. O. for 13 years, so I'm not picking on them).

Since Pat is having problems communicating online, I think the snailmail credit card will be better than Pay Pal. I'll heed Maria's warning about security, and when I have Pat's snailmail address, I'll let you know, and I can PM it to whoever wants it.

Any other ideas gratefully accepted.

 
Just heard from Pat. I have her snailmail address, will PM it to anyone who asks...her message says

"We still haven't set up temp housing. So much to do. There are so many of us displaced, it is surreal. Thanks for your good thoughts"

I'm on my way out to the store to buy that gift card now.

I also asked her for her phone number, will include it when I get it.

Couldn't PM (maybe not working yet?) sent you an email. Note to all

if PM doesn't work and you are a member of the Y! Group I have access to your emails and can email the info on to you that way.

Marianne - when you send her that gift card tell her to spend it right away, those VISA, MC, etc gift cards deplete in value over time (found this out the hard way when we bought a bunch for work to use as bonuses.)

I had a terrible pause here: I thought "oh, I have Pat's address already...."

and then I realized that particular "address" building may have been burnt too.

I have a PO address. Is that still valid??

 
PO is what she gave to Marianne and in turn what I have...

I did read they are directing folks to pick all mail up at the post office so I expect either way mail will be there.

 
PM's are not working. I tried to send Pat's address to all who asked, using both the drop down list

and also trying to enter the user name, and nothing works. The drop down list doesn't send, and if you enter a user name, the message is sent, but there is no recipient shown on the message sent page. Who needs to know about this bug?

PayPal connection from MariaDNoCA

Just received a message from MariaD NoCA

"I have a PayPal account, and plan to send her a box anyway, so if it's easier I could have folks PayPal me and then I could turn that into gift cards/etc and mail them to her as a group gift from all of us. Just let me know what works for you."

Please contact Maria if you want to use her PayPal account to send help to Pat. I've already sent Pat a gift card this afternoon, yes, it must be the most horrifying event for her.

Folks, though this feels like home it's good to remember on here we are out there w-i-d-e open for the whole of the internet to see.
