my upcoming road trip to Phoenix

I am visiting family in Phoenix 2/19-2/24. I'm driving from Oklahoma and after I take my SIL to the airport on 2/24 I'm on my own for as long as I like before I start the drive home.

Would any one nearby or en route like to meet?

Can anyone recommend good restaurants; both en route for me and in Phoenix for my family and me?

PHX in Feb, CA in March

FL in April (assuming Joe retires as planned 2/28)
Dallas in May
Atlanta and KC in June and hoping to arrange a meet-up with you on the KC trip (don't have exact date yet)

I would say that I'm a jet-setter except I'm driving everywhere except CA. I might make that drive sometime but not in a pickup truck with 3 dogs!

What type of food are you fond of? We have several good restaurants here.

What are your preferences?

We like hole-in-the-wall mom-and-pop places the best.

I fondly remember the old hole-in-the-wall Mom and Pop original Garcia's in the SW end.

Wow that was a good meal. Great for them for being so successful but that old joint was a fine experience.

I like pretty much everything.

One sister-in law is like me, loves to eat and cook. The other rarely goes to a restaurant that is not a chain, unless she is with us.

Re. the hole-in-the-wall aspect, no problem as long as it is safe (food- and neighborhood-wise). On the other hand, I also am a fan of a high end meal every once in a while.

I would be so pleased to hear about several of your favorites, if you have time.

Well, yes, I would go because I don't get to discrimate much in this part of the world. Any decent

Mexican food is okay with me. I have gone often to the new ones for their chilis rellenos and liked them. But the old place was just one of a kind.

I also liked the Old El Paso Grill. It had terrific corn bread and pulled pork.

Pizzeria Bianco is always on the best pizza list in the US. That would be a must stop for me.

A friend of mine opened a pizza shop here in Seattle (Delancy) and as part of his research, he flew to Phoenix to try their pizza. "Research" is a beautiful thing. smileys/smile.gif
