- Big brunch this a.m. for out-of -town relatives visiting. Where has the summer gone. Brunch included blueberry pancakes, zucchini bread with apricot jam, jalapeno-sausage-cheese omelets (more about that later), broiled tomatoes, lavender biscuits with mint butter, and melon smoothies (with the new sorbet-maker!), coffee, oj, etc. (Most of this *I* did not make!)
- For some odd reason, I planted 6 jalapeno pepper plants and now am being barraged with peppers. They took a while to grow, but now are coming in a couple a day. I've given some away, but is there a way to preserve them, or any fantastic recipes with them I should try? A friend dries them and uses the seeds for use later in the year, but I think I'd just go to the store and buy a jar of crushed pepper seeds for $1.
NFR 3 - Has anyone seen the International Space Station these past few nights (or is that region-specific for the northeast right now?). We saw it flying overhead and it was pretty exciting. Found it, watched it, then we were staring at Mars for a while and couldn't figure out why it wasn't moving anymore. LOL. 'Found it again and watched as it moved across the sky.
- State Fair this week, so prize-winning recipes will be coming soon. 'Can't wait to try some of them. See link. The Lemon Bouquet cupcakes sound interesting. My favorite place, the Demonstration Kitchen was flooded and will probably be closed when we go later this week (
- With the corn at such a great price, I'll have to see if I can find some new and/or forgotten recipes for it. 'Just remembered corn-zucchini fritters. Maybe creamed corn, corn relish, corn and black bean soup, succotash. I just love late summer and all its goodies.
- Dinner tonight? Probably spaghetti pomodoro with zucchini and kalamata olive salad.
