My Weekend Six

- Had a nice lunch Sunday with the family: quiche, shrimp salad, fruit, asparagus, and strawberry shortcake. Nice, but rainy... 'can't have everything I guess.

- I finally finished slicing and freezing all of my leftover turkey from a few days ago. Getting a little sick of it, but we did like the turkey salad made with maple-mayonnaise. Really good, as was the turkey and biscuits we had, the turkey and cornbread stuffing, the turkey-cranberry sandwiches, the...

- DH and I went to a Lobsterfest in Chittenango on Saturday. Nice, but it was such a nice day it was pretty crowded. Good cause though (Rotary Club).

- Burrito bar at the new Mexican restaurant in town. Have to try that sometime soon!

- It's my turn to pick a book for the (summer) reading book club. Any suggestions?

- Lilac, tulips, apple blossoms are all gorgeous, but... ahhhh chooooo....

Late again but here is my weekend six...

I had some friends over for cheese and crackers on Friday night. I didn't have time to cook so everything was store bought but sometimes, that's okay too smileys/smile.gif

Saturday was relaxing. We went to an apple cider farm and bought two cases of dry apple cider. DH loves that stuff. The cafe in the back yard at the cider farm had started the BBQ season, so lunch on Saturday was mixed meat from the grill for DH and a vegetarian gyro for me.

Had a long walk with DH and the dogs on the beach on Saturday afternoon. It made me want to go on a picknic. I love picknics.

So I decided I need some new picknic stuff. I dragged out the old stuff and made and inventory. Seems like I need a new cooler. DH probably won't agree on this one, so I won't ask him.

I am teaching the dogs to walk on a leash. It's hard, but we are getting there. Unfortunately, my dogs don't respond well to dog treats. Raw salmon, on the other hand.....*sigh*

Ended my weekend with a cup of tea, some thin mints and Salman Rushdies book Joseph Anton - about the 11 fatwa years were he had to live in hiding. Freedom of speech is very close to my heart and something I am very passionate about. I really like the book and it sure have picked my brain on numerous times about how far we are willing to go to defend peoples right to speak their mind.

I'm glad you posted, I really like reading everyone's Weekend Six!

that said, here are mine:

1) Work had a farewell happy hour for a staff member and I had St. George Terroir gin martinis - the aromatics are picked from Mt. Tamalpais in Marin, it really does taste like the mountain. Lovely stuff

2) went to the farmer's market on Saturday morning with a friend, after we visited one of the old Italian butchers in town. They can order veal kidney chops for $15/lb. When did veal get less expensive than beef? Not since the 40s? I bought a ribeye for $18/lb. I used my new string market bag and it's great! I need to get more cotton yarn and make a million more. I filled my bag and more for $20 so I'm feeling virtuous as well as thrifty.

3) There is nothing finer than drinking wine at someone else's house and watching the fog blow by on a Saturday afternoon!

4) I cooked the rest of the weekend for work lunches/dinners:
-- cooked the bacon I had cured - wow
-- red cooked pork belly with bok choy and steamed rice
-- roasted zucchini planks
-- mushrooms in a port sauce
-- giant sourdough muffins with butter and raspberry jam (to fortify me as I cooked)

5) I knitted a new shawl in green alpaca, super soft, it has a leaf edge detail and I've got 7 leaves done, only a million more to go.

6) had a nice chat with my mom and things are going well for her, despite the sadness of seeing my stepdad's mental state so degraded. She has helpers 5 days a week and hospice help on the weekends, plus her neighbors are being so nice. I wish I had a car or could afford one. I just want to keep her company and give her time to take naps. It was hard to be away from her on Mother's day.

Hope you're all having a great week!
