I have a very special reason to post a weekend six....

1. Made a sourdough bread without having to heat up the kitchen late in the morning - Forkish's loaf was baked at 7am

2.Made a simple banana bread to take to the department tomorrow, using up 4 bananas that were about to walk away from the kitchen

3. Ran 8 miles first thing Saturday morning.... feels great to be able to run medium distances, something I thought it was over for me.

4. Played golf with hubby at sunset, taking our dog Buck along - gorgeous day, the three of us had a ton of fun!

5. Wrote and scheduled 3 blog posts

6. The special reason to post the weekend six: this very post is my number 1,000 in the forum!!!!!!!!!

HOW COOL IS THAT?

Bless you...you are a type A !! Relax, Sally smileys/smile.gif

Given the state of our world, your education and knowledge are needed right now.

I'm awed that you work all week and are willing to get up early to bake bread on weekends.

You go girl!

but but but... no one will play with me????? (and more inside, to Karen...)

Karen, we wake up at 5am, 5:30am at the latest every day, weekends included, and if we are in vacation too.

no big deal for me at all to bake bread at 7am, or even earlier smileys/wink.gif

anyway, I thought others would share the Weekend Six thing, I did not mean for it to be a "me me me" post! smileys/wink.gif

OK... I'll play. My weekend six.

- Struggling to find a fun rec to use leftover watermelon... Tastes good, but kind of done w/ it. Tried Watermelon crisps in the dehydrator last week (Failure). Now trying Granita today.... So far, so good....We seem to buy a watermelon each weekend during the summer.....

- Picked up peaches at the local farmers market and grilled them on Sat for a spontaneous get together. They were quite tasty. I stuffed them w/ goat cheese (Not my moms... as she is not a fan), and threw some roasted nuts on them.

- Pulled together last minute smores "bar" for the picnic. Which basically was an assortment of any type of candy / chocolate that could be warmed up with a toasted marsh mellow. We have the fire pit, so (Kit kats / dark chocolate / peanut butter cups / white choc, etc) Was fun.

- Purchased fresh figs from the farmers market. Such a treat. But have not been able to eat them all raw. Wondering if I can sear them? Saute? I know it sounds weird, but there is not enough to make jam, and I'm getting raw figged out.....

- Having trouble coming up with 6...

- OOOHH!!! Not food related, but really fun..... Saw my first fire flies for the year this week. It was sooo cool. It was like watching a magic show going on. I enjoyed it much more than the 7/4 fireworks....

My weekend six...

1) Saturday I went to a 4yro birthday party for twins next door. I was going to bring Meryl's Ginger Melon salad, but I must've made the ginger syrup too strong and given the melons weren't that great (like they were two weeks ago thank you very much) I ended up tossing the whole thing with plain simple syrup I keep on hand -- poof! Much better.

2) I also made the 4 yros #4 cookies as a garnish for their presents (wrapped simply to easy to tear open) in her fav color: pink and his: red. I put them in the sunroom that was as hot as the surface of the sun to quick dry, which caused some blemishes to appear in the icing, but doubt a 4yro would notice.

3) Got some new wines at Costco to try, one of which is this one
http://costcowineblog.com/2012-kirkland-signature-chateauneuf-du-pape/ snagged some free wooden wine crates too.

4) While I still haven't reorganized all my spices, what did I do? Oh yeah, buy more. I went to the going out of business sale (sob!) at my small all organic wonderful produce mkt. Pretty much the only thing left was spices --- I scored Grains of Paradise and Lavender at 1/2 off!

In non-food news:

5) I got my AC fixed (thank both the old and the new gods!) However, the repairman screwed up my toilet when he used it, the plumber (same company) broke it, and the owner is now getting me all new innards and a handle to be installed later this week.

6) I confess that I started having an affair...with my new neighbor's cat and I'm not ashamed to say it! First, it was me poop shaming through the window and the cat arguing it's case. Then it was I'll come and talk to you, but I won't let you come near me. Then it was, ok one pet and then I'll run away. Then it was, ok you can pet me and omg....I'll jump in your lap and love all over you with drooly purring headbutts.

Since then we've started meeting up outside at twilight every evening for mad passionate roll in the dirt cuddles and last night I let the cat come in the house for fur flying couch cuddles.

I've got me some cat love without the litter box, tuna breath or barf -- and d*mn it, I'm not giving it up! smileys/smile.gif

No, I haven't heard from her either. I emailed her and never got a reply.

I have been worried about her for awhile. It has been quite awhile since she posted anything, which really isn't like her. I hope someone else has heard from her.

I recall when it started, some did it regularly, I even participated now and then

but it seemed to sort of die off.

We are early risers too, anywhere from 6 to 6:30 am. It used to be 5 to 5:30 am for us in the summer because of the heat. We are both retired now and have been for sometime. Neither of us are getting up at the crack of dawn anymore unless we have a trip planned and want to get out early. I loved it when we did though, and when friends asked us (and some still do) "why do you get up so early" my reply was, "I love getting up before the rest of the world gets up and ruins my day!" It was true, there is such a peacefulness in the world at that time of the morning. The birds are out singing, the air is cooler, the streets are quieter, and I got a lot of cooking done! I was the only one among my work mates who had dinner prepped by the time I got to work!

My weekend six...

1. Exhausting trip to the Croc outlet store (I had no idea that it was a tax holiday weekend, traffic was unbelievable) followed up by a visit to Sedanos, a Hispanic supermarket. Bought lots of mango, guava and passion fruit juice, and passion fruit pulp, guava puree for muffins. DD bought guava ice cream, then left for TX without even tasting it. So sad.

2. Cooked Portuguese-style prawns for dinner that night, for the first time in quite a while.

3. My friend Judith in England wanted an easy recipe to make with her 4 year-old niece. Sent her Joanie's Crunchies Recipe and also a very easy coconut tart, which turned out to be her favorite tart in the world, for which she had lost the recipe years and years ago, and never been able to find it.

4. Found delicious figs at Costco.

5. I've been traveling, went to NYC to see my sister, then with DH to New Orleans to see younger DD who moved there in June, so we haven't been having our weekly braai. DH was thrilled once more to slave over a hot fire producing steak and bratwurst.

6. Finally made a trip to the new Orlando Trader Joe's. We had to park quite a distance away. Bought some nice-looking tuna for a reasonable price, very nice samoosas, some wine, of course, and fell for a box of macarons. (Sent most of them off with DD when she left this morning.) I had no idea that a Shake Shack had been opened in the same plaza as Trader Joe's - it was, if anything, even busier.

Rolling on the floor on the cat love. You're just lucky it has a home, The one that came into my

life was a stray and the ensuing years with three moves weren't easy. Enjoy the cat then enjoy sending it home.
