My youngest son is a senior in college this fall, and he's home for the summer. Cooking is very...

...sentimental, actually, and I really wasn't expecting that.

He's on his back, recovering from his ACL surgery last week. It's the second time he's been through this, having torn the ACL in his other knee in high school.

Since DW and I are eating keto, I don't cook at all like when the boys were young. Can't eat the rice, pasta and potatoes they grew up on.

Recently though, in order to keep the 'patient' well-fed and happy, I've been cooking some of those dishes again.

Chicken cutlets with panko. Stir fried chicken with broccoli. Pasta with three meats and peas.

DW was nearly brought to tears with the memories! So fun....

I love it that cooking is in your heart, and you "get it" that food is a gift you

prepare with love for those you care about. I have told this to some people who look at me as if I have taken leave of my senses. Hope you son heals quickly and there is no doubt he is getting the best home care possible.

Yes, Karen, it is a special bond, for sure! Last night I made the chicken cutlets...

...I mentioned earlier, the same way I made them for years when he was growing up.

He said he wasn't really hungry, so the food sat on the plate, untouched, for several minutes. DW urged him to at least have a few bites so he could take his meds with something in his belly.

After one bite, he took another, and then another.

He ended up eating two full fillets, and loving it.

I am having a moment! ... Seems like just yesterday, you mentioned he was going to school in NJ

I can't believe he will be a senior! Time passes so quickly. I was hoping we could catch up during one of your visits. Reach out end of Aug when you bring your son back to NJ..... Enjoy and treasure the summer!

We are about 45 min to his school.... If you need to mail / send things before you get back to NJ.

You can mail them here. Then no excuses, we we will get together! : )

But seriously, if your son needs to send stuff / store stuff before school starts, no worries. PM me for address

Thank you. That is a very kind offer. The school has a storage service on campus...

...and he used that when leaving campus in May. They will deliver his stuff to his living quarters early, before he arrives for the fall semester. This works well because he can't really lug boxes around with his post-operative knee.

Thanks again. You are very nice to offer! We may visit him this fall, but for sure next June, when he graduates.

An idea. Have you heard of Blue Apron?

Our oldest has been Blue Apron-ing for almost 2 years and still loves the experience. I suggest try 1 box for you and son to prepare together for your family. There are some wonderful deals available on your trial box. Colleen
