Need a way to degrease soup right away. We left 85 degree weather and came home

to frost warnings. Sooooo, I made a big pot of vegetable beef soup. Don't have time to chill to let the fat come to the top as we'd like to have some for dinner. Can't skim 'cause you really can't see any oil on top. It's loaded with vegetables and barley so I can't use the separator.

I started with about a quart and, after adding odds and ends, ended with an eight quart almost full stock pot.

If you can't see a lot of oil it may just be that simple. It just may not be that fatty. Enjoy!

I've used paper toweling, just slowly sweep it across the top of the soup. You'll be able to tell

if it picks up oil. Another method is to wrap ice cubes in the towel, supposedly the ice will solidify the fat and it will stick to the towel, but I have better luck with just the towels.

Welcome Back Cyn! I recall you mentioned that you were in VA. Did you go to the beach?

We were there this summer and really enjoyed ourselves. Fun restaurants, local joints, great seafood!
Hope you were not driving last night in the rainstorm!

Best,
Barb

Thanks, Barb! The weather was lovely- one day of rain out of fifteen.

We hit the rain for about an hour, then just drizzle. Chinco is sadly lacking in good restaurants. Apps are generally good but the entrees leave a lot of room for improvement. Had a wonderful time.
Next on the list is October leaf peaping and a stop at both Ben and Jerry's factory and the King Arthur store.

Iceberg lettuce with attract the grease

Take a piece of iceberg lettuce (seems to only work with iceberg)and drag it across surface of soup. The lettuce absorbs the grease. Now your not putting towels in your soup.
