During Community Share week, employees are asked to bring in a basket to be won by other employees. Employees buy tickets for $1 a piece and then put them in a bag before each basket. At the end of the 2 days, a ticket is drawn from each bag for that basket. There are usually about 100 baskets and we have 1000 employees here, so the odds of winning one are pretty good. No alcohol allowed.

Here's what I made last year. I don't want to repeat myself...and haven't got a single idea.

"Chick Flick Night":

large ceramic popcorn bowl
"When Harry Met Sally" DVD,
a box of Kleenix,
bags of microwave popcorn,
mutant size boxes of Goobers, Good & Plenty, and Raisinettes,
big bags of licorice.
Filled the cellophane bag with the bowl and air-popped popcorn.

"S'More, Por Favor"

2 packages of Hershey's Candy bars (6 bars each)
1 large 8-oz Hershey bar
1 box Graham crackers
1 bag large marshmallows.
2 "ready to light" fire log
a package of long bamboo sticks
flashlight.

"Mambo Italiano Night"

large metal colander
box of Italian pasta
large jar of Italian red sauce
large jar of Italian white sauce
Box of biscotti
Block of parmesan cheese
Small bottle of olive oil
jar of pesto
box of breadsticks
checkered tablecloth
Chianti bottle candle

"Veni Vino Vavoom"

large decoupaged wooden wine box
set of wine glasses
box of wine crackers
box of cheese crackers.
jars of cracker spreads
box of brie
gift certificate at the liquor store
cloth napkins

I just did a breakfast themed basket for a charity event. Local maple syrup,

pancake mix, "gourmet" jams and jellies, coffee, tea, cocoa, mugs and napkins. That's all I remember but it went over really well.

Nifty ideas in this thread geared toward seniors but doesn't have to be limited to that age level.

I love the baskets! Some additional ideas:

"relax" package with spa stuff
"nail it" basket with nail polish, etc...
or

Can you auction off a spend a "day in the life of Mar" or a "Day in the life of your cafeteria chef" (You get the idea...) Would be marketed for the employees children.

I love Michael's auction a few years ago...I believe he made a coffee cake/sweet once a month for the lucky winners!

Have fun!

Best,
Barb

Some ideas from our various auctions at work....

You're previous baskets are great but these might give you some inspiration...

- rafting trip
- golfing with the VP
- gardening baskets (even thought it's end of the summer season yu can do fall crops or tools with a gift certificate to order spring bulbs)
- cooking lesson in their home for up to 6 people
- dining tour - take them on a 'Roadfood' tour of the hidden gems in your area - you would be surprised how many places people don't know about
- fishing basket
- grandkids basket - brag book, games to play with grandkids, frames cookie mix, movies and things to do with the grandkids
- sports team baskets always go great
- grilling basket with bbq sauce, rubs, mits, apron, and utensils
- pamper basket with massage, candle, mask
- lottery tickets - a basket full of lottery tickets
- car care kits - a big pail with cleaners, chamois and maybe a gas card (if we have gas available any time soon)
- Taste of Tuscany - Under the Tuscan Sun movie, pasta, sauce, olive oil, biscotti, etc.
- Game night basket with assortment of games & snacks
- fall decorating basket with fall colored/scented candles, wall hangings or door wreaths, fall tray or glassware
- new baby basket - someone always has a new baby, grandbaby or a shower to go to, we often do a boy and a girl one
- boy/girl basket - themed for little boys/girls with things like trucks, barbies, etc.
- tea basket with a nice tea pot, treats and unusual teas
- Southern foods - this sounds weird but there are a lot of folks that have 'migrated' and they find it fun and it always goes over - I put some things like locally made jams & jellies (usually Loveless Cafe), Jack Daniels' tipsy cake, Tennessee Tea Cakes, Zatarains dirty rice or other mixes, Glory Foods canned foods, grits, Goo Goo clusters, Martha White mixes, sorgum and such I put a list in of what, why and how to use.

Great ideas...couple more...

you could do era themed baskets...

Rock n'Round the Clock ('50's)
Strawberry Fields ('60's)
Diso ('70's)
I love the 80's
etc.

Have fun -- I love doing baskets; I do 'a something to nosh on after the reception basket' as part of every wedding gift I give.

Marilyn, I'm thinking of Lee Bailey's Country Weekends (which you sent me) and picturing homemade jams, some baked goods if they're not too perishable, delectable tinned things like smoked oysters and tiny sardines, a French coffee press, bottled lemonade (or rosé in lemonade bottles, but we don't want to get you in trouble) linen placemats, napkin rings, inexpensive cutlery, all on a breakfast tray.

Tea for Two Too Tango? Tea basket with 2 cups/saucers, honey, honey dipper,

tea, small tea pot, curd, scone ingredients in a jar (with recipe and instructions), 2 fancy napkins...

instead of a "basket", a "green" shopping bag might be fun to fill with organic choc and coffee and

brown filters and whatever else.
