of what to cook/serve etc please.

Will this come down with a change in diet?

He is quite taken aback...he is very thin compared to me, Lol!...well, so he indignantly says!!!! and I have no problems.

He eats wh. wheat bread...toast and spread every morning....wh. wheat sandwiches for lunch with yogurt and some sort of sliced cold meat.

Snacks or meals (his 1st choice) are tuna as sushimi with soya sauce, wasabi etc...chips and dips and beer. And what ever I cook for supper...usuall low carb, low sodium etc.

He has been burning the candle both ends for months with little excersise and he feels he should only do more excersise....he is not a wine drinker, doesn't smoke and drinks minimaly????

So big help here please.

TIA

you seem to be on the right track, joanie.

you want reduced amounts of fat, salt and alcohol. exercise is important. maybe use low-sodium soy on the sushi. a bit easy on the wasabi.

If he's not overweight, stress and lack of exercise are probably the culprit. Regular long walks

would do wonders. Lots of fruits and veggies wouldn't hurt.

My blood pressure goes all over the place when I'm stressed, but levels out when I get regular exercise.

Watch the salt/soya intake. Not good for the old BP.

Check the meat and yogurt for hidden salt. If it's sausage or smoked meat for coldcuts, it probably has lots of salt. Cheese can have lots of sodium too. Watch what you use for marinade or brine. Both can contain lots of salt. Crackers and bread can be high in sodium as well. If store bought, it should give the amounts on the labels, at least here in the US. Canned veggies also come to mind, although many are now available lo-salt. You will become a label reader, if not already.

rvb??? none of us take meds???? nada, zippo....

what for?? Occasionally a cold/sore throat means all the stuff to decongest..like once every few years and sometimes something for pain/headache (usually me the next am after that extra glass of wine)......but I have to say I have wondered if we NEED to take old age things for bones etc....
He only found this out after needing a medical for changing to another bank ... the doc did not even offer a 'script to him...prolly knowing he wouldn't be consitent in taking it anyway.

sure sounds stress related. I agree with everyone on the exercise. also...

get garlic capsules. Kyolic is a great brand. you want them with active alliin, 3 times a day. it brings blood pressure right down to normal very quickly if there isn't something more serious going on. even then, it still might do the trick. it's truly amazing stuff.

I hope things stabilize quickly for him.

good idea randi.....we eat lots of garlic......

he loves it roasted. I will get garlic capsules.
I also feel he should take up that holiday I offered to him...we ahven't been away in over 2 1/2 years for a relaxing anything...he says he doesn't need it as we live in a constant holiday....Ha!!!! he is more stressed living like this, workwise than he has ever been but always appears so laid back!

"laid back" are key words here. this means he prolly...

bottles up emotions (i could write a few books on that subject).

look for constructive outlets. i have a friend who addressed this by volunteering at the recycle center and busting glass bottles to smithereens. maybe an increased amount of conch would serve the same purpose.

obviously it's best if you can live well without drugs. i'd be...

dead without them (blame my forebears).

a lot can be done with meds like hydrochlorothyazide that are cheaper than my $5 copay.

Lol, and you're right....

I too feel he keeps too much inside. Always has, dear man.
What stressed him day and night after night was (he is a cpa) changing from old time ledgers to quick books....he only got his first PC 6 months ago and the "darn machine wanted to tell him how to do things", apparently!!!
Anyway, he finally did it, his tax returns are in and now this!!!!

Thanks for all the sage advice...

we are going to go cabbage soup diet...sort of .....for a week. Veggie soup for every meal, no or little sodium, and no chips or dips or soya sauce!

I'm not a lable reader but I'll be making an effort from now on, I guess.....

it seems that sodium is in every thing...He loves the red ginger that goes with sushi too...now this I get from the Asian store and comes in an unmarked container....I'd imagine that there must be some sort of salt preserving this...
It's just so strange as we do eat fresh a lot and only add some bought/pre-made stuff on occassion.
If stress does this, then I'm hoping things will come right soon.

HE could also try taking one "baby" aspirin and 1500 mg of calcium supplement per day

The aspirin would be the equivalent of 81 mg tablets. The only bad thing about the calcium is that is can cause constipation. If he drinks plenty of water, eats a high fiber diet, and gets daily exercise, it will minimize that side effect.

These are some common current OTC methods for helping to reduce moderately high blood pressure.

Edited to say this is based upon my own personal experience. Obviously, any supplementation should be OK'd by a Doctor prior to beginning.
