New Ice Cream Flavor

I'm sure you all have heard about, made, or tasted Paula Deen's "Not Yo' Mama's Banana Pudding" recipe by now. I finally made it, couldn't bring myself to buy pudding in a box and substituted homemade vanilla custard and real whipped cream for the cool whip. Wow, talk about rich. I have to say I prefer regular old banana pudding with vanilla wafers, bananas, and vanilla custard and baked meringue on top the way we had it when I was growing up.

However, I had a largess of the combined "pudding" mixture leftover since I made it in a smaller pan. So I put it in the ice cream freezer and made ice cream out of it.

Uh huh... Vanilla, Cream Cheese, Cajeta Ice Cream anyone???

 
Yes, it's spoonable

out of the ice cream maker. If you freeze it in the freezer afterwards it does get kind of hard and needs to temper a bit at room temp.

 
Oh my. I can see chunks of banana and broken chessmen cookies added. Must remember this.

Forget the pudding and go straight to the ice cream freezer. Thanks!
