New (to me, at least) freshwater fish: SWAI. Ugh! It was terrible...

...in my opinion.

It is a freshwater member of the catfish family, farmed in the rivers of southeast Asia.

With all the bad info coming out about how filthy these fish can be, I won't be buying anything but fresh-caught from now on.

This fish was mushy -almost jelly-like, no matter how we cooked it. I bought a bag of filets from Kroger supermarket. No taste, and an awful texture. Don't bother.

The above is my not-so-humble opinion. If you like SWAI, my apologies for the strong opinion.

Michael I buy Swai and have had no problem I changed over

to Swai because Tilpa tasted like dirt. I get mine fresh and sometime frozen not farm raised.

Sorry to hear it wasn't good for you.

Michael, I hope you take the fish back to the store and tell them exactly why you are bringing it

back. We, as Americans, need to take a stand on this crap. I take things back to my supermarket (Raley's and Safeway) and tell them why I do not like it and I get a refund or an exchange. We all work hard for our money and should not pay for the crap that we get, IMHO!
There is a huge movement starting right here in our area to buy American. I think it will catch on. I will never buy farmed fish again, and haven't for over two years now.

I bear some responsibility in that I googled "Swai" and read a bunch of descriptives and ...

...reviews before I bought it.

The problem was the reviews seemed split between people who had my experience, and people who had Carol's. I really was hoping to like it.

Unfortunately, my experience matched the negative reviews and since I now realize these things are farm raised, I won't buy it again.

I had the same experience with a different type of bagged frozen

filets from Kroger. The texture was disgusting. They had obviously been stored/transported inexpertly and probably experienced some partial thawing/refreezing. Threw the whole bag away.

We Capricorns are notorious for saving our receipts to get our $ back. I hope you'll do the same

if you haven't already.

My boys ALWAYS like to go with me when I 'negotiate' a problem with a business entity.

I'll never hear the end of the time I asked the thick-waisted, pimple-faced manager of the local Blockbuster if "the cash I paid for the gift card had expired? I'm sure it hasn't. So how can this gift card expire?"

I live for that sort of thing too. Good for you!!
