Thanks to rhoward2va and Richard in Cincy for their travel suggestions. (No matter what I plan, DH has his own ideas so we compromise.)

Our boat arrived via the lovely Wachau Valley on a sunny but cold day. Our first outing was to a concert hall in the Hapsburg complex.

Two visits to the beautiful Dom. The 2nd was for High Mass on Sunday with a choir, small orchestra, and organist performing Mozart and Mendelsohn. (However, tourists kept wandering in and down the main aisle during Mass. Wonder why they aren't kept out during services?)

Toured the Opera House which had just started its season. One of my kids is in theater so this was a special treat. I can't say which was more impressive, the front of house or backstage! They have eight shows, alternating daily. Imagine the take-down and set-up each day.

I remain stunned by the National Library. As a bibliophile, my jaw dropped when we walked inside. Can you imagine doing your research in one of those little study rooms behind the towering bookshelves?

DH liked the Schatzkammer, Kunstmuseum and Neue Burg best. The Hapsburgs were exceptionally acquisitive folks! I liked walking up and down the streets. Thanks for the suggestion of the streets behind the Dom - galleries, little shops, courtyards...

Mozart Kaffee, Annaschnitten, and Sachertorte.

Frittatensuppe, Rindgoulash, porkroast with sauerkraut and stupendous Knodel. Wienerschnitzel. Kaiserschmarren. Apfelstrudel...We brought a Sachertorte from Demel's home with us. The neighbors who picked us up got to share it.

The picture was taken at Huth restaurant. We enjoyed our dinner very much.

Good thing Austrian airline seats coming home seemed a bit wider than the United ones!!!

Next time, we just go to Vienna and stay for a week or two.

I just saw the pic...lovely Austrian dinner...

Did you try the Schmalz? I never developed a taste for it. The Austrians just go nuts over that. I've never been to Huth, but the food looks fabulous.
