NFR: Anyone bought a DVR lately?

We are about to cut the sat. tv and go back to cable. To save costs we are going to buy our own DVR. Many choices out there so I want to hear what has been the experiences of owners.

 
Most companies here offer a free DVR when you sign up, they are a fairly simple

piece of equipment and we have had zero trouble with all that we have had. I think we have always gotten them for free.
