NFR: Anyone know about acute-care rehab centers in Cleveland?

A friend is at the Cleveland Clinic where he had his mitral valve replaced back in December. Thought they would only be there 12 days...but things keep happening and they're still there. He's only in his 50's and his wife is thinking he should do his heart rehab there instead of trying to get him home to FL. He has been in ICU for 6 weeks.

She asked me to review the Kindred (Fairhill) or the Grace Hospital (Fairfield) rehab centers as she left without her computer and has been searching on the phone when not back at the hotel. He has to be in an Acute Care rehab.

I'm reviewing online, but wondered if anyone has any personal experience with the area.

Thanks!

The names I listed, but each of those has 3-4 facilities around the clinic.

Laura doesn't have a car, so she'll also need a hotel near whichever clinic they choose.

My experience

My social worker on my liver team got me setup in a rehab center place to stay have them check with there social worker or get one thru. Hospital they will know.

Thank you Charley and carol...the patient advocate has been helpful, but they

are not allowed to make a formal recommendation. All they could do was give a printout of the available options.

Then see what

There insurance will cover, have them ask other patient's families call the places ask them what they offer and they can also get Physical therapy just let me know I will help or find out more

I would be pretty sure if they are recommending them they are

adequate. Is one closer than another since she is limited by not having a car (should she get one in order to free up her time a little). She could also google the specific places to see if anything pops up. She could visit them and tour to see how things appear. And the idea of checking their insurance eligibility is good.
I don't know if Healthgrades has ratings for facilities, but they do for doctors. Might check their website.

Lots of rehab centers are also convalescent hospitals and there are ratings on those...

Mom is technically in a skilled nursing and rehabilitation center. Lots of these places do both aka are one and the same. I believe moving her there was a coordinated effort between the hospital and her insurance care coordinator. I believe the insurance person was helpful in finding the ratings, but it was our experience the hospital tries to get the patient into the best ones they know of - with an open bed. Also, and this may just be in our case with mom, which of course is a different situation, but we found that once the hospital makes a placement/moves the patient to a care facility, it's much harder paperwork/insurance wise to move to another location later after the fact. So, chose wisely and coordinate with the insurance person is my advice.
