NFR: anyone live in the DC area? I have a young friend who wants to attend the inauguration

in January. She is on a REALLY tight budget and is looking for cheap lodgings for Jan 16-22. Are there any hostels in the area that are decent? Maybe outside the city where train service runs or something?

cheezz, It will be very hard to get reservations in DC. I do know of a pretty cheap

motel in Arlington a block or so from the Metro in Clarendon. Mario's, a pizza-sub joint next door was one of my old high school hang-outs. Lefty still works the grill to make a dang great steak n' cheese with pizza sauce and hot peppers!!

The Highlander is an old motel, and probably pretty cheap for the neighborhood -- I won't vouch for security (but all rooms face the boulevard) or the ubiquitous bedbugs.

If she is alone and wants to stay in dc in a hostel, she'd be wise to stay in NW dc -- duPont circle is ok, woodley park is a good area.

Here's a link for Hostelling International...I haven't stayed at this one but

I've stayed in many hostels during my day. It should be fine. I recommend they bring their own padlock for the lockers. Hostels are a great way to network and no doubt there will be others participating as well.

Check with your local bus touring company. We have one going down with a 2 night stay

with tickets included that's really cheap.

Perhaps she should check there.

I'd LOVE to go down for the inauguration, but the baby will be about nine days old at that point. I think I will be otherwise occupied!
