NFR....Baby, it's HOT! Today is another record breaking hot day. 93 F, with himidex, 109.

I'll bet that is really tough to take when you are not used to it.

We go three to four months of that (or hotter). However, I'll be smiling in December when it is in the sixties. Take it easy if you have to be out in it. When the humidity is high too you don't cool down because the sweat doesn't evaporate off of you.

Words to live by; words of wisdom. We had two days in a row last week of 114 F.

Very dry. We tied the all-time LOW for humidity on one day at 2%. Can you believe that? 2% humidity!

It was so dry you could dehydrate by breathing out your breath! Sweat would form on your skin, but not make it to your shirt before it evaporated. Very strange.

Melissa, we had a very quiet day. We entertained last night and are blessed with leftovers.

We only have A/C in our bedroom and spent a lot of quality time in there.

I'll bet. I was wondering how many of you in the North and Northeast don't

have air-conditioning. I know my friend from Masillon, Ohio grew up without it. I could never understand why so many people died up there in temperatures which would not be extreme down here until I was told about the a/c.

I can't imagine that. I'd be clawing myself raw with itchy, dry skin and I have dry eyes

and even with considerably higher humidity than that I feel like my eyeballs are searing the minute I walk outside.

Lots of homes, especially the new builds have A/C. Because of the kind of heating system we have

it's very difficult to install central air.

Michael, I don't know how you can stand living in Phoenix along with the thousands of other people

Redding is hot enough. Were any fires started during those two days? Out here in CA when conditions are right, those who are in need of work seem to find a way to start fires. I can't imagine 2% humidity. What does that do to animals who live outside?

Some years we start running the a/c in March and are still running it in

November. I remember in fall of 1999 I had the last week of October off and it was 90 or higher every day that week.

The Nat'l Weather Service issues a high heat warning the day before. We kind of...

...watch out for each other. I always travel with extra water, in case someone is stranded without enough to stay hydrated.

Everyone is mindful of pets, even if they're not yours. A call to the authorities will bring a quick response if you suspect a dog is tied up outside with no shade, or worse yet, not enough water. It happens, but people try to work together.

It is very dangerous and we always have tragedy in one form or another. I won't go into detail, but it can kill just as sure as being out in the freezing cold.

Meryl, we're in Ottawa, Ontario......Canada, eh? It's unusual to have a stretch of such hot

weather and we've been breaking records all week. Today is supposed to be the hottest @ 95 F so with the humidex it will feel like 112 or so. At the moment the house feels comfortable with the fans going but by the afternoon we'll retreat to the family room in the lower level or the bedroom with the A/C. I just don't do well in this kind of heat.

Hey Sylvia, I spent many years without air conditioning in NYC until I finally couldn't

take it anymore and bought one for the living room! Luckily, it filtered into the bedroom.

I have central A/C here in NC, and even though it's nice and cool in the house, ever since the temperatures hit the mid/high 90's, I've been feeling exhausted. I just hope there are no power outtages - we already had one a few weeks ago from A/C overload. Today it's almost 100 degrees here.

Take care and I hope it cools down over there soon!

I'm going to be there in 11 days... can you cool it off some before then?? Thanks much smileys/smile.gif

it's in the 50s at night, maybe low 60s and I sleep with window open and ceiling fan running. ahhhh

We could have quite a conversation about temps across this huge

country of ours. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say South Florida average temperature is 80 to 82. Soooo, 60? I'm under a blanket, in socks and everything else I can find. And the fan certainly would not be on. So when Eastern Airlines went under and John said he was going to work at Saudi Arabian Airlines in Saudi I said...OK, when do we leave? I don't think you and I could live together Angie. ;0)
