I just finished Bill Bryson's "At Home: A Short History of Private" and loved it! Couldn't put it down.

Also Loved Mordechai Richler's "Barney's Version" - it's being made into a movie.

Am reading Ken Follet's "Fall of Giants" - its 'good'.

Also enjoyed:

“Girl In Translation” by Jean Kwok

“The Rapture of Canaan” by Sheri Reynolds

“Someone Knows My Name” by Lawrence Hill

“Jamesland” by Michelle Huneven

I belong to 3. In one we have just finished I, Claudius by Robert Graves. In the second we are just

finishing The Orchard Keeper by Cormac McCarthy
and the Jan. book is Akhenaten by Naguib Mafhouz.
This is 20th century literature.
In 21st century literature I skipped this months and don't remember which it is but January's is
The Feast of the Goat by Vargos Llosa - one of my favorite books.

These are all online and I have been part of them since 1998 and we do get together whenever possible at books festivals.

The online is better for me because while everyone tries to read everything it is not the same absolute committment that a f2f group has.

I just downloaded The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks - Rebecca Skloot to my Ipod since it was on

almost every best books of the year list. It is also being read by a non fiction group I belong to but very rarely get to read.

I've gone to several but haven't hit on one I really like they types of books they read yet. One I did like for content was reading all the classics, but they didn't drink wine (only kool-aid) suffice to say it didn't last long. One I really liked but the hostess moved managed to get local authors to come -- that was really fun.

It was my favorite too! I couldn't get enough of it when it came out.

I used to know every name, relationship, who murdered who, etc. Sean Phillips as Livia was amazing.
