NFR Does anyone want to help my Robotics teams?

We are half-way through our LEGO Robotics season, and the local hospitals have not replied to my requests for helpful doctors.

The teams had to invent something to make the life of seniors (defined as older than 60) easier. They have invented:

an iPad-type buddy to remind you to take your medicine and be generally helpful, and combat depression

A private chatroom (ie not actually on the WWW) for seniors (one of my kids actually wrote the server software, with a little help from his dad) to combat loneliness

a fancy pill -dispenser that stopped mistakes from happening

a suction grip that forms around anything to help seniors pick things up and open doors etc (it really works, too)

a comfy cast because seniors are hurt by regular casts (they assure me this is true)

a device to warn people that their bladder is getting full to deal with incontinence (they have no idea how to make this work)

I can't even remember the last two inventions (I'm late for school)

They need to introduce their ideas to people who might have a stake in them (so either seniors or health workers and so on) and get feedback on their inventions. If you would like to answer their emails, or know someone who would be interested in answering their emails, please PM me your email address, and we will get in touch with you.

We are doing well so far. One of our eight teams has gone through to Regionals, one won a project award (the chat room) and one won a judges award.

Thanks very much for reading this! smileys/smile.gif

How about a local retirement community in your area?

Contact the Executive Director (title may vary). The residents would likely be very interested in helping. If there is an assisted living component to the community there will be a nursing staff, usually including at least one RN, that might be able to help with the medical perspective.

Yes, we are in touch with one, and they have offered to help

but the wider the teams can spread their net, the better their projects get and the better they do. Thanks for the suggestion!

Lana, we moved into a condo with lots of sweet aging people

all around us who probably would be willing. I'm printing this out and I'll ask around and see what they say. I can be a go between for any that might not be computer capable. I'm in Sunrise on the opposite coast from you. Any help to you?

Yes, that woulod be great! Thank you.

We hope to have our project presentations on YouTube soon, so that would give you a better idea of what they are doing, but really, any feedback would be marvellous.
Thanks a lot!

I'm a very young 65 but I'm happy to provide some feedback.

People think I'm no more than 57 and I haven't had much of the physical problems you're describing. I really did appreciate it when one of our chains put large pad credit card readers at the cashiers though, with numbers so big that glasses weren't necessary. I thought just a pop over magnifying screen would have been sufficient.

Now if they could just turn up the lights a bit.........

Thanks, Marg, they will let me know what they want to ask.

They did look hopefully at me when the topic came up, but I'm 56 and no good to them from that respect.
