NFR (exactly...): Do any of you know anything about cake plates or F.B. Rogers Co. silver??

Are those indents in the top? It looks to me like an oyster plate or caviar dish. Ice goes in the

silver bowl part, under the glass. I'm not sure if it's supposed to swivel, but that would make sense for oysters.

I Googled all over the place and came up with zip. One person posted they had the bottom piece

and was wondering what would go on top. That was the ONLY bit I found smileys/frown.gif

Very curious. I'm still not certain it's a cake plate--but then the Victorians had serving pieces

for everything under the sun, and forks and knives for ditto.

The curved glass "base" puzzles me. If you flip it upside-down, so the base becomes like a bowl, does it sit securely on the stand?

no - the glass 'foot' on the bottom fits into the silver base perfectly to hold it in place

if you flipped it upside down, it would just fly off the base - nothing to hold it in place.

Cake dish and base

I have the exact Plate and base.
It belonged to my husbands Aunt.
I really don't know its worth but was very surprised to see you had the same one.

Do you know anything about the date of it? Just wondering how long it's been around...

not a style I've ever seen before. Funny you should have the same one - I love it!
